SYNOPSIS
The story of The Nutcracker, based on a tale by E.T.A Hoffman, begins with a gala Christmas
Eve party at the home of Judge Silberhaus. Uncle Drosselmeyer, the children’s favorite relative,
arrives and presents Clara, the heroine of the story, with an amazing Nutcracker in the shape
of a handsome soldier. To her brother, Franz, he gives a toy sword.
That night, Clara is too excited to sleep. On the stroke
of midnight, she creeps downstairs to retrieve the
Nutcracker and witnesses a fierce battle between her
brother’s toy soldiers and a swarm of mice, led by a fierce
Mouse King. Clara saves the Nutcracker by throwing her
slipper smack at the wicked mouse! Lo and behold, her
Nutcracker becomes a handsome Prince.
To show her gratitude, the Nutcracker Prince whisks
Clara away to many countries. First they travel through
the exquisite Land of Snow where they are greeted by
the regal Snow Queen and her Snowflake Fairies. Then
they travel to the Land of Sweets, where the beautiful
Sugar Plum Fairy puts on a glittering spectacle for them.
Clara finds wings on her feet as she dances the Final
Waltz with her Nutcracker Prince.
As the Sugar Plum Fairy and her court wave goodbye,
Clara’s Uncle Drosselmeyer mysteriously appears with
the magical Nutcracker. Alas, it was all a dream.
But was it?

Christmas Memories
FRI, DEC 5
· 20 MINUTE INTERMISSION ·
Photography or recording of any kind is prohibited. Please turn off all cell phones and electronic devices before the performance.Jim Witter has been entertaining for over 20
years....
Whether it be his country music,
contemporary Christian, or the music of
Billy Joel and Elton John, Jim's versatility as
an artist has allowed him the opportunity
to reach out and share his music and his
infectious personality with audiences of all
ages across Canada and the U.S. His unique
approach and comfortable rapport makes
each member of his audience feel as though
they are a part of a private concert in the
comfort of their own living room. This, along
with his rich, powerful voice and ease of
manner at the piano, make him a favorite
with theatre goers everywhere.
It all started at a very early age, as Jim began
performing in the comfort of his own living
room. His mother would play piano, and Jim
would belt out the hits, everything from the
Beatle’s to Broadway musicals. Not bad for a
four year old! All through his school years,
Jim knew that he was destined to have a
career in the music business. “I never really
thought of doing anything else”, he says, “and
neither did my parents because they always
encouraged me to follow my dream.”
And follow it he did. Jim paid his dues,
playing in the clubs and bars around
Southern Ontario for years. He would write
songs and record demos during the day, and
play in the clubs at night to pay the bills. Jim
met his wife Rebecca in 1985. Together, they
worked tirelessly to promote Jim’s talent
and music in hopes that one day their efforts
would be recognized. Finally in 1990, one of
Jim’s demos came to the attention of a Sony
Music Canada executive, which really got
Jim’s recording career rolling. A record deal
with a smaller independent label in Canada,
soon gave way to a multi-record deal with
Curb Records of Nashville, home of Tim
McGraw, Leanne Rimes and Wynonna Judd.
From his first self titled record, to All My Life
and Forgiveness, Jim has had 10 top ten radio

hits in Canada, seven hit videos on CMT,
and impressive chart action in the U.S. on
Billboard and R&R.
Jim’s music and songwriting have been
recognized on both sides of the border,
earning him multiple awards and
nominations from the Canadian Country
Music Association, the Juno Awards,
and most recently the Dove Awards in
Nashville, where Jim’s album Forgiveness
was nominated for Inspirational Album
of the year. “Songwriting has always been
a real love of mine,” says Jim. “I feel very
fortunate to have been able to work with
so many incredible song-writers over the
past years, like Steve Wariner for instance.
Not only have the collaborations produced
songs that I am very proud of, but I have
gained an invaluable education and created
lifelong friendships along the way.”
A few years ago, Jim came up with the
concept for the show The Piano Men; a
musical journey through the 70’s featuring
the songs of Billy Joel and Elton John. "I
was always a big fan of acoustic music-
especially the folk of the ‘70s: James Taylor,
Harry Chapin," he reveals, "but my real
mentors were Billy Joel and Elton John."
This multi-media rock musical has turned
out to be a hit, receiving rave reviews from
music critics all across North America.
There are even plans to take the show
overseas to London and Japan in the near
future.
Jim still lives in Southern Ontario with
his wife, Rebecca, and their four children,
James, Roslyn, Ryan, and Luke. A devoted
family man, Jim is also very active in his
community, supporting numerous charities
and organizations, especially those which
benefit children and their families. “All I’ve
ever wanted from this business is to be able
to support my family and to make people
feel a little better when they hear my music.
To help them forget about their troubles
for a while and enjoy the moment,” he
concludes. “If I can continue doing this 5,
10, 15 years down the road, I’ll be perfectly
happy.”

Rockapella Holiday
Songs of the Season
FRI, DEC 19
Scott Leonard: Pyrotechnics is a word
often used to describe Scott Leonard’s
singing voice. Scott grew up in
Indianapolis, IN, and though he departed
the Hoosier State for the University of
Tampa on a baseball scholarship, he
ended up a voice major. He sang in rock
groups for Disney in both Orlando and
Tokyo for two years, releasing solo albums
while in Japan. Scott’s soaring vocals and
songwriting prowess have played major
roles in shaping Rockapella’s characteristic
sound.
Jeff Thacher: The astonishing percussion
sounds you hear in a Rockapella show
are performed vocally by Jeff Thacher,
completing Rockapella’s band-without-
instruments sound. Born of a very musical
family and raised on piano lessons from
an early age, he later added frequent vocal
and choral experience. After receiving
a degree in music and recording from
Boston’s renowned Berklee College, Jeff
spent a few years working in the radio and
television industries while singing and
experimenting with vocal percussion on
Rockapella has become one of the world’s most sophisticated, lasting, and imitated
vocal groups around today. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more influential one out
there in this new era of network television a cappella shows like NBC’s The Sing-Off,
movies like Pitch Perfect, and innumerable college vocal groups that own the corner of
cool on campuses everywhere. Since the early ’90s when they first achieved national
television fame on PBS’s Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?, they’ve toured the globe
and provided a funky powerful soundtrack to several generations of vocal music fans,
while keeping it all fresh along the way. With buckets of catchy original pop songs, and
complete contemporary revisions of sparkling Motown, pop, and soul classics, this group
has always been the one to watch.

the side in various groups, developing
his unique sound. Since joining
Rockapella in 1993, he’s been known as
a pioneering giant among professional
mouth drummers (a select group of
beatboxers) who, as he likes to put it, “spit
for a living.” Jeff’s powerful virtuosity
forms the funky rhythmic heartbeat of
Rockapella, delighting and astonishing
audiences everywhere.
George Baldi: The Super-bass hails from
Philadelphia, PA. We found him while
he was playing a handsome singing
Frankenstein at Universal Studios,
Osaka, Japan! His rich soulful bass voice,
remarkable solo range, overall top notch
musicianship, and good looks were a
great fit for the group and we nabbed him
quickly. George’s prior swipe with fame
was as a member of a group that would
later become Boyz 2 Men. Just as the Boyz
were about to gain greater fame, George’s
family sent him off to college. Bummer for
the Boyz…great for Rockapella…
Steven Dorian: A worldwide talent
search led Rockapella to tenor Steven
Dorian, a former baseball star at the
University of Massachusetts. Steven comes
to Rockapella straight from the world
famous stages of Disney, having played
many major roles in Disney productions,
including Disney’s Festival of the Lion King.
Steven is a man of many talents whose
singing, dancing, and guitar playing
have been showcased from Branson to
New York, opening for Kenny Rogers,
performing for international audiences.
With his gorgeous vocals, smooth
style, and magical grace on the stage,
Steven rounds out the savory blend of
Rockapella’s three tenors.
Calvin C. Jones: was born and raised in
East St. Louis, IL, and grew up idolizing
Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. He
started singing at an early age, then joined
the vocal group Men Of Note at 13 and
traveled the world as one of their lead
singers for many years. Singing led to
a passion for theater, and he went on to
be featured in shows such as Dreamgirls,
Fabulous 50′s, and Little Shop of Horrors, and
brought his talents as a lead singer to the
group SouthTown Fever. Rockapella had
the good fortune to find Calvin while he
was showcasing his silky smooth voice
as a featured singer at Busch Gardens, in
Tampa, FL.
