A moment to gather
A Superbowl starts by a pregame where everybody brags about his
favorite team.
All gathered to watch the ads which are as much important as the
game itself. They even get more attention than the game.
20 seconds left in the game after Patriots’ interception. ‘Pats’ fans can’t
wait to celebrate.
Beer and food set, it’s time for the Superbowl. A nice time to be gathered around television with family and
friends.
Matthieu ‘s desillusion seeing the Seattle Seahawks
loosing after a tight game.
Christopher, Michael and Nick are expressing their
joy after last second of the game.

n the United States, once a year, the first Sunday of February
takes place the Superbowl, the final of the NFL championship.

However,despitethesebignumbers,theSuperbowlisawaytogatherfam-
ily and friends to drink beers and sodas and eat while watching the game.
Before the game people meet a time ahead in order to brag
about their favorite team and make some prognostics about the
game while starting to take a sit in front of the television. Then 6:30,
the referee whistles the kick-off. People start grabbing some food on
the table and start drinking. Each sip and bite is calculated to be ex-
ecuted during replays in a way to enjoy every second of the game.
When a time out or a slightly break happens, it means that it is com-
mercial break time. Indeed, the volume is turned up to enjoy or crit-
ic the expensive ads. They are a big deal not only for the companies
but also for the audience because it is a way to share its point of view.
During the game when a team scored, the other one scored back.
You could feel the tension meanwhile crackers disappeared little by lit-
tle. Approaching the final minute of the last quarter, the score was 28 to
24 for the Patriots with a possession for the Seahawks ten yards from the
touchdown.MatthieuaSeahawksfanwasreadyforawinningtouchdown

Michael and Nick, who are Patriots fans, were waiting for the end of the
game trying to not jinx the victory. Finally, 20 seconds later the game was
over and the Patriots fans could express their joy screaming and singing!
Today it becomes more and more difficult to share moments like this with relatives and friends
in an individualistic society. Comparing to France, there are no such big events that can lead to this
kind of gathering excepting the Fifa World Cup but only if France reaches the semi-final and the fi-
nal. We can say that the Superbowl is part of the American culture mixing in one side the millions spent
in ads and endorsement and the ability to make people united for a game and a means to tell story later.
At the end, after the game, the ads, the halftime show and
the Patriots victory, it was the occasion to talk about the best ads,
the best plays and comment about Katy Perry performance. In-
deed, the Superbowl is not just a game it is a tradition and a way to
share something in common even if you don’t like football there
would be something you can enjoy during this period of time. Maxime Lagrange
