Continue regular communications with those on the Chapter Advisory Board (CAB).
Chapter Advisor Communication with PA. Alpha Gamma
The Rex and the advisor communicate once to three times per week. These come in the form of
email texts or Phone calls.
The Rex and the Chapter Advisor have at least the minimum of one phone each week to discus
the working of the chapter. These weekly call consists of leadership, budgeting, risk
management and finding new leaders in and out of the chapter.
These calls are focused on building the relationship of the Rex with the Chapter advisor and the
entire E-board.
The Chapter Advisor is on campus at least twice a semester and meets with te e-board and any
potential future leaders in the chapter.

Interfraternity Council Letter
To whom it may concern:
Since the time I had written the letter over winter break, Pi Lam has keep their foot on the
gas. The continual growth and succession that they have displayed is no surprise anymore, rather
expected and modeled.
They continue to tighten their strong ties both in the community and within the student
body. They have hosted another successful Pie a Pi Lam where students donate to pi members,
showing the campus of the good will and care Greek life can show, while relating the two
through a similar goal. They continue to participate in numerous community events including
Tree Fest, Greeks Give Back, several park cleanups, the Big Event (Bloomsburg’s biggest
community service effort), Bocce Bash, Empty Bowls. This last semester they have also
participated in other organization’s events such as a fundraiser for the Wounded Warriors
Foundation along with a walk for Pediatric Cancer.
Along with that, they have found time to do well with the reason everyone comes to this
place, an education. They have finished up another successful semester with a GPA higher than
the all men's average. They have had another strong recruiting semester, recruiting another
group of fine gentlemen to continue the high standards that are required of them. As expected,
they had shown that their achievements thus far have been no fluke, by finishing with another
great semester. So as I have mentioned before, and still fully stand by, as IFC President and
active member in the community, Pi Lam has been an absolute pleasure to work with.

Letter of Recommendation to Charter
December 22, 2015
Pi Lambda Phi
Executive Director Ian Lowe
60 Newtown Road, #118
Danbury, CT 06810
It is my pleasure to provide a letter of recommendation for the PI Lambda Phi colony of
Bloomsburg University. The members have worked extremely hard to complete their programs
and initiatives both for their membership and for our campus. I have appreciated the opportunity
to work with the colony during their planning process. Their most recent planning process was
completed in their very first week of September 2015. This process helped the chapter focus on
their remaining programs and allowed the executive board to assign remaining tasks. I was able
to assist with reservations throughout the semester and provide regular feedback on their
activities to ensure the programs followed the campus policies and procedures.

Send a minimum of two members to Greek Leadership programming like UIFI,
LeaderShape, Futures Quest, Impact, IFC Academy, etc.
Short letters from both members telling about their experience important lessons learned from
the experience and how those lessons can be applied to the chapter.
UIFI Experience
To: Chapter
My experience at UIFi was life changing. Before entering the weekend I wasn’t expecting very
much other then another leadership conference. As soon I got there I knew it was like no other I
went to you were forced to think out of your comfort zone, participate in activities that made you
work with team members, think how the whole fraternal society is getting a bad reputation and
how one can change that and relate everything to valuable lessons to bring back to your
fraternity.
The team projects at UIFi were very beneficial you had to step out of your comfort zone with
your group and really work together at first not even knowing anyone. All the team building
projects had a meaning that you can relate back to your fraternity such as, lack of
communication, getting all brothers to work together and realizing sometimes there are failures
to work with. Once the semester starts I hope to bring a few of these team building games and
meanings back to my fraternity.
Another thing that stood out to me the most is how much of a bad reputation fraternities
are getting. It’s easy to overlook these, but a strong point they made is how well we know our
creed. The reason for this is because, if one knows their creed and lives by it every day then we
would not be put in to situations you hear on the news continually. The main point they made
was to educate fellow brothers on how important living by the creed really is. I hope to run a few
presentations explaining our creed and values at a few meetings a semester.
The experience at UIFI has changed the way I look at fraternity life as a whole. The week was
filled with valuable lessons that can help me with my time at school and life. I hope we can send
members each year because, I have made so many great friends and learned so many valuable
lessons to bring back to my fraternity. This was not only a conference, but an experience that I
will always cherish.
Sincerely,
Trevor Ahouse
Husky Leadership Summit
To whom it may concern,
The Husky Student Leadership Summit took place Saturday, February 28, 2015 in Carver Hall
and the Kehr Union Building of Bloomsburg University. Several Pi Lambda Phi members were
asked to attend. The conference featured many experienced alumni and professionals who spoke
on leadership paths and undergraduate pursuits that lead to future opportunities in academics and
careers.
The first session I attended was titled Student Organizational Leader Track: Organizational
Branding, Marketing, and Assessment. The presenter first went through what it means to “brand”
oneself. She explained that the best candidates for jobs one applies for are the ones who make
themselves unique and stand out from the others. By discovering one’s brand, one can convey
their experience and reliability with only a few words. I participated in an exercise with the
session group in which the presenter instructed us to write three phrases down that define us. I
wrote “natural leader”, “honesty is key”, and “orderly work”. Then, she told us to elaborate on
PA

such subjects. Why are we defining ourselves in this manner? Under “natural leader”, I wrote
“leads by example” and “motivator”. Under “honesty is key”, I wrote “academic integrity”, and
“truth”. “Orderly work” I elaborated on as “organized and reliable”. Lastly, she told us that it is
important to sign up for LinkedIn, to make as many connections to potential employers as
possible. The session was very informative and a good starter to the day.
The second session, titled Career Path Choices after Undergrad was mainly focused around
questions from the audience. Four representatives sat at the front of the room and answered as
many questions about leadership, graduate programs, and internships as were asked. Mostly what
was taken away from this is the fact that your connections are the most important focus after
undergraduate school. Never burn your bridges between potential connections and internships
are one of the most important ways to get hired.
The session titled Social Justice Leader Track: Uncovering Our Unconscious Learning—
Mindsets was in my opinion the most important session I attended. The speaker was a
Bloomsburg Mass Communications department alumnus. He spoke on our unconscious biases
and prejudices. I connected quite closely with what he preached due to Pi Lambda Phi’s mission,
to eliminate prejudice. He explained quite well that there is a difference between diversity and
multiculturalism. I learned that by becoming a part of a different culture, or something I am not
used to, my multiculturalism expands, but my diversity might not change. New experiences with
cultures and ethnicities reduce our prejudice because we can understand each other better by
sharing a moment in time. The points he made led to one conclusion: prejudice exists in all of us,
but how we embrace it and enhance our understanding of different cultures defines us. I hold this
lesson dear to my heart as a member of Pi Lambda Phi because it expands our knowledge of
prejudice and how it can be eliminated, as described in our philanthropy.
Overall, the conference opened my eyes to different and useful knowledge and opportunity
that I can apply in my near future. The presenters’ experience enlightened me to new possibilities
and lessons that can be learned by not only members of Pi Lambda Phi, but all students that
strive to become leaders in their own respect.
Sincerely,
Shane DeStefano

The Regional Recruitment Conference that we held was one of the best I have been to yet. The
Phired Up speaker Vince Fabra was amazing and one of the greatest speakers I have heard. His
conversation builders were something we can use in all aspects of our lives and already
have. Using how and why questions instead of just what furthers a conversation along and
makes it a lot more meaningful. It increases the comfortability with you and a potential allowing
you to get to know each other on a more personal level. This would show potentials that we
actually are truly interested in what they have to say instead of just having a conversation to have
one. The techniques for recruitment that we learned here will definitely be implemented into our
fraternity. The use of smaller and more frequent events is something that would be greatly
beneficial to our chapter. Making sure potentials stay interested in our fraternity is something we
will improve on in the future. Since Bloomsburg has a deferred rush keeping potentials involve is
crucial. Getting to talk with Pat and Orion as well as other chapters was greatly enlightening as
well.

Convention was a great experience for me! I wasn’t sure what to expect and little did I realize
that I was going to be in for a great experience. I learned a lot of great information regarding
recruitment, fundraising, inter-chapter relations, and personal engagement between potentials
and new members. While at convention, there were numerous occasions where I thought to
myself “I could use this at Bloomsburg.” One of the main things I could bring back was the
emphasis on good communication techniques such as not having your phone out, or making sure
you listen more than you talk. Fundraising tips were learned from other chapters and from the
national organization. A huge opportunity that we saw was Greek Capital Management. In the
past we have had brothers who had not met their financial responsibilities which fell on all the
brothers who are accountable. Greek Capital Management is a great middle man that would
allow no room for error when handling dues. The fee is minimal compared to potential losses.
Along with the great tips we learned, getting to know the other members of Pi Lambda Phi was
the greatest experience of all. I met brothers from almost every chapter whom I had never
connected with before. I feel as though now I have a brotherhood at every Pi Lam chapter I visit
now. All in all, I feel that the 2015 Pi Lambda Phi convention taught me a lot and I can use these
teachings as a powerful asset for this coming year for my chapter!

During the New Member Education Process of Pi Lambda Phi PA Alpha Gamma, we not only
strive to teach the new members of the organization that they are joining but also how to develop
into a better, more sophisticated man. Along with the PLPU process we also have our new
members participate in school provided seminars and conferences. One of these seminars is our
schools ZIPD program. All business majors are required to attend these conferences but they are
also open to the rest of the school. These conferences focus on professional development. This
development includes dress, dinner occasions, resumes, proper educate with business personnel
and many other applicable competencies. While enduring all this education, the new members
are also encouraged to interact with the brothers in community service events, sporting events,
and general day to day activities such as lunch or a musical presentation. Overall we strive to
create an experience that adds to the individual that partakes in it. We work toward a greater
more well-rounded fraternity gentleman.

Continue Scholarship/Academic Program. *Analyze strengths and weaknesses of current

Submit a review of the chapter's Academic Plan (areas of improvement, important areas of
strength to duplicate in the future, necessary adjustments to be made for the future).
ΠΛΦ Fraternity – Academics
PA ΑΓ Chapter at Bloomsburg University
Overview – Setting a New Standard
Starting in Spring 2015, Pi Lambda Phi PA Alpha Gamma chapter at Bloomsburg University has
implemented its first academic program intended to encourage brothers to stay above the 2.7
GPA standard mandated by Pi Lambda Phi International Headquarters. In the Spring 2015, there
were five brothers put on academic probation. During probation, these brothers were required to
record times that they attended library hours during the week. A paper with grades report and the
library hours log-in was handed to the academic chairman at each chapter meeting. Disciplinary
action was taken if a brother on academic probation did not attend their library hours.
This system was severely flawed. Only one of the five brothers was able to remove himself from
probation for the Fall 2015 semester. It is clear the academic program must change. The
criticisms of the last program were as follows:
• There is no way to tell if the brothers were truly attending their library hours except for
taking a picture at the library, which does not prove they are studying.
• Punishments only worsen the relationship between the brothers on academic probation
and the scholarship chairman.
• There is not enough positive incentive for brothers to keep their GPA as high as possible.
• Goals – Improve and Maintain
Pi Lambda Phi requires all of its brothers to be at or above a 2.7 GPA, so naturally our first and
most important goal is to be able to remove all seven brothers from academic probation. This
will be executed similarly to UNC Pi Lambda Phi ΩΒ chapter’s Academic Monitoring Program
(AMP), which is explained later in this document.
Historically, our chapter maintained the highest cumulative GPA average on campus among
Greek organizations for the first four semesters we were established. Since then, our Pi Lambda
Phi has dropped to second highest GPA average, when our cumulative average dropped slightly
below 3.0. Our second goal is to improve our cumulative GPA average back above 3.0 and
reinstate our organization as the highest GPA average on campus.
Enforcement – A Reasonable Alternative to Punishments
People in general tend to respond negatively to punishments. As stated previously, the
previous academic program punished any brother on academic probation that skipped library
hours. The punishment usually entailed a loss of social privileges or a fine by Standards Board or
Executive Board. All fines will be eliminated from the new program, while the losses of social
privileges and risk of expulsion from the fraternity will remain.

As per standards, if a brother is not able to achieve a 2.7 GPA within three semesters of
being on academic probation, that brother will be at risk of expulsion. Judicial Board, Standards
Board, and Executive Board will hold the final decisions of these situations.
In addition, instead of library hours for the brothers on academic probation, the Academic
Monitoring Program (AMP) will become active for these brothers.
AMP – The New Plan
Each brother on academic probation will be given an AMP sheet. This sheet will have lines for a
professor or tutor’s signature. Every time a brother gets an A or B on an assignment worth 10%
or more of their final grade, receives help from a tutor, attends a review session, visits a
professor or TA during office hours, or meets with an advisor, they will be rewarded positive
points. When a brother receives a grade lower than a B on an assignment worth 10% or more of
the final grade, they will be given negative points. Points will be awarded as follows:
● 4 points for an A on an assignment worth 10% of final grade or more
● 2 points for a B on an assignment worth 10% of final grade or more
● 2 points for attending a tutoring session
● 1 point for attending a class review
● 1 point for visiting a professor or TA during office hours
● 1 point for meeting with an advisor
● -1 points for a C on an assignment worth 10% of final grade or more
● -3 points for a D on an assignment worth 10% of final grade or more
● -5 points for an F on an assignment worth 10% of final grade or more
Each participating brother will be required to earn 10 points per month. 10 points monthly will
grant the brother his privileges for the next month. If a participating brother fails to get 10 points,
that brother will be suspended from social privileges during the next month. If a brother falls into
negative points, they may be asked to attend a meeting with the academic chairman.
Duties of the Chairman – An Overseer
The academic chairman will hold a meeting with the participating brothers of AMP at the
end of every month and serve as an advisor of sorts. He will collect the AMP sheets from each of
the participating brothers and evaluate progress. He will also collect syllabi or class exam
schedules from each member to ensure all grades are being reported on the AMP sheet. Any
conflicts will be brought up directly to Judicial Board, or in extreme cases, Executive Board.
Financial Incentives – To be Determined
It is to be brought up in the near future whether there will be rewards given out for
highest semester GPA in the fraternity, most improved brother, or Dean’s List. Ideas for awards
include but are not limited to: a dinner paid for by the fraternity, gift cards, or discounted dues.

RE: Philanthropy Event 2
Pi Lambda Phi at Bloomsburg University is working on a new philanthropy event along
with the BU Alliance. In Bloomsburg an Anti-Discrimination ordinance was brought before the
town council. The Ordinance would prohibit businesses from discriminating against who they
serve including members of different sexual orientations. The council meeting went as follows
by this report from the Town Administrator: William Lowthert http://bloomsburgpa.org/wp-
content/uploads/121514TCMin.pdf .
I reached out to the LGBTQ club who then connected us with the BU Alliance. We
attended a training session on how to approach the businesses with Dr. Oleksiak. We then had
several meetings on putting together and dividing up the zones.
On Friday December the fourth fifteen of our brothers went out to complete this
philanthropy project. We had some businesses place the sticker in the window and some business
not for either corporate or other reasons. Although not everyone decided to join the campaign it
was interesting to see the ones who did. People were engaged in this campaign and believed in
what to also provide a more inclusive business environment in Bloomsburg. One manager works
for a nationwide business which has regulations on whether you can place anything in the
window. He has been calling me for the last two weeks updating me on whether he will be able
to post the sticker or not. Even if this business is not able to it is nice to know people are so
dedicated to a campaign like this. He could have said he would try and brushed us off, however
he is working hard to be a part of the message. It is reassuring to know that there are people who
share in our message in every community.

RE: Philanthropy Event
Today on October 8th, 2015 we held our Fall philanthropy event “Wash Away the Hate”.
Our philanthropy committee worked off of the “Wall of Hate” idea and put a new spin on it.
What we did was have participants write an offensive word they had been called on the
whiteboard. Next they would grab a water gun and spray the white board containing the word
and then wipe it away with a towel. It was free of charge to do but some donated anyway. We
had people from all backgrounds, religions, races, creeds, sexual orientations, etc.. This was our

first event of the kind where we dealt with prejudicial issues even though we had raised money
for them in the past. It was a great way to actually address issues of hatred face to face. It was
emotional to actually see what some people were called for being who they are, honestly quite
disheartening. However the atmosphere was very well spirited and we got to relate to people on
some of the issues they had faced. It was nice to let people know that they were not alone they
had hundreds of people showing how they too were or are facing the same thing. Gretchen
Osterman our Greek Life director told me that a lot of people are hesitant when addressing
prejudicial issues because of the tension that comes with it. However she said we created a fun
atmosphere and people actually felt better about those issues after participating. We were
stationed across from the L.G.B.T. club who was selling shirts and raising awareness. I talked to
their group later who was very happy with our event as well and most of their members
participated. We talked and are going to do events in collaboration next year. He also said that he
would contact the Women’s Resource Center, Multicultural and Diversity Center, Best Buddies,
and other groups that share the same message.
In all we made many bonds with fellow students, staff, groups, and other members of the
community. It was a great way to deal with issues of prejudice through a high spirited event. I
was very proud of all my brothers who worked to make this event the best it could be. When we
do these types of events we not only educate others but also ourselves about how relevant the
message: “Elimination of Prejudice” really is.

On March 21 Pi Lambda Phi PA Alpha Gamma celebrated our first Founders Day
Celebration. We had all of the brothers gather together and invited some faculty as well. I was a
great day of celebration of how far we had come since not only our inception in 2012 but of Pi
Lambda Phi’s inception in 1895. We got to remember why we started and reflected on our
message. The message that we realized is more needed today than ever. Pi Lambda Phi at
Bloomsburg University plans to be proactive in bringing a more equal environment to this
community.
Suggestions for Improvement:
Be more proactive in sending out invitations to guests.

PI LAMBDA PHI FRATERNITY
Founded at Yale University March 21, 1895 by
Frederick Manfred Werner, Louis Samter Levy, Henry Mark Fisher as
North America's First Non-Sectarian and Non-Discriminatory Fraternity
Dear Bloomsburg University Faculty Member,
The Bloomsburg University colony of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity first began in 2012. Since
then, Pi Lambda Phi was named Bloomsburg University’s Organization of The Year, has held
the highest GPA amongst fraternities, and has grown to one of the biggest fraternities on campus.
Our fraternity’s philanthropy is to eliminate prejudice in our school and local community; a
message we carry with us every day. The brothers of Pi Lambda Phi work hard to facilitate to the
needs of the community and help it grow in a positive manner. We are constantly searching for
more opportunities to further our philanthropy and cultivate our community.
The undergraduate brothers are working to further expand our roots in Bloomsburg
University by networking with the faculty members, professors, and administration that guide us
towards success. We recognize the benefits of building strong relationships between our
organization and the faculty members. Pi Lambda Phi invites you to our First Annual Faculty
Meet and Greet Luncheon on Monday, November 30, 2015. The luncheon will be from 11 a.m.
to 1 p.m. in the Student Services Center Conference Room 140. Food and drink catering will be
provided by Steph’s Subs, a local sandwich shop. This informal luncheon allows us to connect
with faculty on a personal level and enables us to be more involved in our campus community.
If you have any questions concerning this event, or are seeking future correspondence
with our organization, feel free to email me at pam11267@huskies.bloomu.edu or by phone at
(570)-369-2226. We look forward to seeing you to discuss any possible future endeavors and to
enjoy delicious food in good company.

On November 30th Pi Lambda Phi held its first faculty lunch. The event was a great way
for faculty to get to know about our fraternity and change the idea of fraternities at Bloomsburg's
Campus. For many faculty this was the first fraternal event they had ever been too. It was a great
event and we hope to hold it again in the future. Two improvements we hope to make are having
a more suitable location and a more effective date, since it was held after a break.

The alcohol and drug awareness program was an informative look into the drastic effects that
alcohol and drug abuse put on the human body. For the most part, many of the members are
readily aware of the negative health effects that come about through the misuse of alcohol and
drugs, however the facts continue to be startling. This program is something which should be
available for the entire student body of Bloomsburg University, as well as highly encouraged.
The information from this program is something that all of the student body should be taught.
Also discussed was the effective ways to prevent the spread of alcohol and drugs through
organizations such as Greek Life on campus. One area of possible improvement could be the
information about alcohol and drug abuse. Much of the information could be taken as common
knowledge. However, the information still makes an impact and helps reiterate the main point of
the program which is to show the devilish effects of alcohol and drug abuse.

Chapter Recruitment Plan Outline
The purpose of this document is to ensure a successful semester of recruitment by providing an

Step 1 – Set Goals and Note Important Dates
Before any real planning can take place, it is essential to set your goals and have a clear picture
of the upcoming semester. As you set chapter goals, take the time to have conversations and
gather feedback from the other men within your chapter. Recruitment is a chapter-wide focus,
therefore having the buy-in from other members is vital to your success. In addition to mapping
out your chapter’s goals, take a detailed look at the upcoming semester. Look at all important
dates including first day of classes, start of the formal rush period, any holidays or days off
during the semester, important days for the university (i.e. homecoming, Greek Week, etc), mid-
terms, and finals.
Goals:
Number of members you would like to initiate into your chapter this semester: __10___
Number of bids you would like to have accepted this semester: __17___
Number of bids you would like to offer this semester: _20___
Number of total names you want on your Names List (end of semester): __75__

Step 2 – Select Open Brotherhood Events & 6 Cylinder Events:
In this step, you will review the Six Cylinders Ideas and Examples and Small Activity Ideas and
identify 10 Open Brotherhood Events (you must select at least one from three different
categories) and 5 Six Cylinder Events (you must select at least one from three different
categories), that your chapter will do throughout the semester.
* Small Activities are events that include no more than 7 total people and no more than 4
Brothers. *Open Brotherhood Events are similar to Small Activities, but are for the entire chapter
and non-members

Step 3 - Chapter Recruitment Training:
As Vice President of Recruitment, it is your role to keep your chapter motivated to meet new
people and build new friendships. To keep your chapter motivated it is essential to continue
bringing focus to your chapter’s recruitment efforts. Having short 5-10 minute Recruitment
Trainings every other week at chapter will ensure your members are prepared to be successful
and focused on 365-recruitment.

Step 4 – Create a Recruitment Calendar:
The recruitment calendar is a critical component of your recruitment plan because it is how
every brother will be held accountable to knowing when, where, and what is going on.
Generally, there are 3-4 weeks when Formal Recruitment (often initiated via an IFC) begins
along with Informal Recruitment. Below is an example calendar and day-by-day plan for the first
month, we recommend using google calendar for efficiency, however there are other available
options.
What distinguishes Formal Recruitment from Informal Recruitment are the pre-planned IFC
activities that request the involvement of all fraternities (i.e. Meet The Brothers, IFC Field Day
etc)
This may “look” overwhelming” however it is what all successful chapters use in some fashion
to have an organized and well-planned recruitment process.

Instructions:
Use the bottom format to create a 7 day layout of your recruitment week. Recruitment generally
lasts about 4 weeks or so, thus you want to create a 7 day layout for 4 weeks. Planning prior to
those 4 week will save you a lot of time and mental energy during the semester. To create a 4
week layout simply copy and paste the example format below and submit your guide with the 4
week format.
Here is an example of what a few days in a week can look like.

Step 5 - Practicing 365 Recruitment
This final step will have you take the 10 Small Activities, 5 Six Cylinder Events and 10 Training
topics and map out when each will take place during the semester. The object is to not over
program you, but to provide an outline for what Recruitment success will look like throughout
the upcoming semester.
The semester should be looked at as a series of two week segments. During each segment, your
chapter should aim to achieve the following:
PA
  Alpha
  Gamma

Bloomsburg
  University

65
  of
  107

1. Host 2 small events where potential new members have the opportunity to meet brothers,
2. Facilitate one six cylinder event which generates names that are added to the Names List,
3. Spend 5-10 minutes covering recruitment related training during a chapter meeting, and
4. Update the chapter names list to reflect the progress and relationships built by the brothers during
that time frame.
Although variety of events is highly encouraged, it is also encouraged to repeat events that have
been successful in the past. Trying to “re-invent the wheel” each semester prevents your chapter
from taking advantage of important lessons learned and building upon past successes.

Philanthropy and Academics) SMARRT = Specific Measurable Agreeable Realistic Relevant
Timely.
-Academics: For FALL 2015 our goal is to have everyone accomplish a GPA of at least 2.75 or
greater. Also we want to raise anyone's GPA who fell below a 2.75 and get them to meet that
requirement.
-Volunteering: Our goal for volunteering is to gain at least 495-500 community service hours as
a chapter in Spring semester 2015.
-Chartering: Our goal is to gain our charter by October. Working to complete a step a week.
-Philanthropy: For Fall Semester 2015, Goal is to hold a Walk for equality by October, have
300-500 people attend on campus, and raise 1500-2500 dollars.
-Recruitment: For Spring Semester of 2015, our goal is to initiate 10 new men; have 12 bids
extended and ten accepted.

RE: Upcoming Goals For 2015
The five goals being set for the PA Alpha Gamma chapter of Pi Lambda Phi fit in the
bounds of the S.M.A.R.T goals. Anyone of these five goals can be met with hard work and
proper leadership, which I plan to ingrain into this fraternity in the coming Spring semester. In
the following I will be outlining goals for: our fraternity to be chartered, academics,
philanthropy, recruitment, and establishing ourselves in the community. All of these goals when
met will leave our fraternity with a well-established foundation for greatness in the years to
follow.
First and foremost our goal as a fraternity for the coming year is to get our charter. Over
this winter break I have been doing everything possible in coordination with my executive board
to complete the steps we can. Originally no one had access to the chartering checklist, with
exception to some of the old executive board. I was able to get the link and share it with the rest
of our fraternity to make it a group effort. Zach Shuster worked on getting everyone into
committees, and Michael Frauenhoffer is working on a budget, as well as a standards list with
Sarkis Gulasarian. These are just a few of the strides we have taken so far to further this
fraternity over winter break. Phase one is almost completed however the documentation for
phase one has not been provided to our nationals. I have talked to Bill O'Donnell who has the
documentation needed, which I will get from him and make it available to nationals. With this
being done we will have many of the tasks completed on the checklist and should be done phase
one before the Spring semester starts. When the documentation is submitted along with the
completion of phase one by the start of this spring semester we have around thirty three tasks left
to be completed in phases two and three. Some of these tasks are already being worked on and
the rest we will work hard to complete and provide documentation for in Spring 2015. Our goal

is to be chartered by Fall 2015. Our executive board realizes that we should already be chartered
which is why we all know how hard we will have to work in the coming year.
On the topic of academics, our fraternity has done relatively well. In the fall semester
2014 we were informed that our fraternity had received the highest GPA out of all the fraternities
on campus. With that being said we did have brothers who dropped out do to academic reasons.
This is something that no one wants to happen of course, however action to change this has not
yet been taken. Part of this was due to a lack in having an advisor which is now resolved.
Besides having an advisor further action will be taken to ensure better outcomes with grades in
the following year. One of our plans is to work with brothers who have lower GPAs by either
tutoring them or mandating library hours until improvements are made. Also mixer privileges
may be suspended to certain brothers who are not meeting their academic requirements. This is
to ensure accountability relative to our value of academics.
Philanthropy is one of my main goals for the spring semester because so far we really
have not held a formal philanthropy event. We have had small events in which we raised around
fifty dollars however we can do much better. I have started a philanthropy committee in which a
few brothers and I have been working on ideas we could do. We are planning to do a wall of hate
this semester which has been done at other Pi Lam chapters and worked well. We plan to keep
the wall of hate up for a week and at the end of the week do a walk for equality in which we may
charge everyone walking five dollars. Walks are something that are very effective for raising
money at Bloomsburg and usually receive a large turnout. Many clubs on campus share our same
goal of eliminating prejudice or something of the sort. We would reach out to all of these clubs
to help us raise awareness for our issue and engage them in walking with us to promote equality.
Also we would extend an invitation to the rest of greek life to come out and join us which would
help build participation numbers. If participation numbers are as high as we anticipate this
fundraiser could raise a few thousand, which would be well above anything we have done
before. This may seem like an unattainable goal however with hard work this fundraising can be
in place by April.
For a fraternity that has only started three years ago our fraternity has done rather well
with recruitment. Devin has done a good job assembling rush events for us in the past year and
we have full faith in him to do the same this year. We have already built a solid foundation with
other greek organizations and students on campus. We attend many social events throughout the
semester which help builds our reputation. Not only are we social but we respect people, which
others definitely recognize and keep in mind when they are rushing because it reflects how they
will be treated. Whenever we have a rush event our turnout is very large. Being a non-hazing
fraternity has been beneficial to our rush numbers, giving our fraternity some of the largest new
member classes on campus. Spring semester we hope to at least gain fifteen to twenty new
members. This would help boost our roster and help us to get our name out more so than it
already is. If we keep growing at the rate we are I believe we could be the largest fraternity on
campus in the upcoming years.
My last goal for our fraternity as a whole encapsulates part of the reason I joined Pi Lambda
Phi. Being a force in the community, possibly the most important goal as a fraternity.
Recognizing problems or needs in one’s own community and taking charge on them is what a
man is all about. Growing ourselves as men and holding each other to the values we swore to be
accountable to is very important. Furthering our community is something we have done already
as a fraternity with our community service. So far we have participated in town cleanups, park
cleanups, tree plantings, Special Olympic activities etc.… I would like to further that this year
PA

  Gamma

Bloomsburg

with first and foremost getting chartered and completing a large philanthropic event. Once we
are chartered we will be able to elect our members to the interfraternity council which will help
us be more involved on campus. Secondly I would like to do more events that help the
community because I believe that is the best form of active recruitment. When you meet people
at community service events you know if they come and rush they’ll be the guys who get stuff
done in your fraternity. This semester I want to do a tree planting event on campus and in the
community for Arbor Day which falls in April. This would be a great way for us to further
establish ourselves and for people to remember us in the community. Every time we do an event
of this nature it helps break negative stereotypes fraternity bare.
I know these goals all seem grand on paper but I realize they are just words without work to
back them they will be nothing. I keep that in mind because many promises have been made but
the work hasn’t followed. I have always given a hundred percent to any position I take on and
plan to do the same with leading this fraternity. Along with my executive board and other
brothers these goals will be attained with our hard work. If this can be done every year we will
grow and further ourselves not only as a fraternity, but as men.

Letter of acknowledgement from the Chapter Advisory Board that the colony is ready to be
chartered.
Letter from a representative of the Chapter Advisory Board recommending the colony become a
chartered chapter.
Dearest Executive Council of Pi Lambda Phi,
I am writing you to inform you that the Colony at Bloomsburg University Pa. Alpha Gamma has
completed the work to become a full Chapter. The Brothers at Pa. Alpha Gamma are in good
standing at the university and are leaders on campus.
I have worked with the colony for just under a year, I have meet the brother in person on campus
they are ready for this next step. They live the creed and they fully understand that this not about
four years but a life time.
They have a small but growing and dedicated group of Alumnae that is active on and off campus.
They have strong communication with each other, true brotherhood.
I hope you see this reflected in the paper work and effort that have made to become a fully
recognized chapter of Pi Lambda Phi. It would be an honor for me to call them Brothers.
Fraternally yours,
Patrick Lincoln

Letter of acknowledgement signed by the IFC President and head of the Greek Life office
that verifies the group has remained in good standing during the school year.
Letter from IFC Advisor and President stating that the colony is recognized and a positive
addition to the Greek Community.
To whom it may concern:
Since the time I had written the letter over winter break, Pi Lam has keep there foot on
the gas. The continual growth and succession that they have displayed is no surprise anymore,
rather expected and modeled.

  • 17. PA  Alpha  Gamma   Bloomsburg  University     17  of  107   Continue bi-weekly meetings/check-ins with Greek Life Director to assess progress. Greek Life Director (or equivalent) write short letter stating that this meetings have taken place. Interfraternity Council Letter To whom it may concern: Since the time I had written the letter over winter break, Pi Lam has keep their foot on the gas. The continual growth and succession that they have displayed is no surprise anymore, rather expected and modeled. They continue to tighten their strong ties both in the community and within the student body. They have hosted another successful Pie a Pi Lam where students donate to pi members, showing the campus of the good will and care Greek life can show, while relating the two through a similar goal. They continue to participate in numerous community events including Tree Fest, Greeks Give Back, several park cleanups, the Big Event (Bloomsburg’s biggest community service effort), Bocce Bash, Empty Bowls. This last semester they have also participated in other organization’s events such as a fundraiser for the Wounded Warriors Foundation along with a walk for Pediatric Cancer. Along with that, they have found time to do well with the reason everyone comes to this place, an education. They have finished up another successful semester with a GPA higher than the all men's average. They have had another strong recruiting semester, recruiting another group of fine gentlemen to continue the high standards that are required of them. As expected, they had shown that their achievements thus far have been no fluke, by finishing with another great semester. So as I have mentioned before, and still fully stand by, as IFC President and active member in the community, Pi Lam has been an absolute pleasure to work with. Joe DiMaggio IFC President Letter of Recommendation to Charter December 22, 2015 Pi Lambda Phi Executive Director Ian Lowe 60 Newtown Road, #118 Danbury, CT 06810 It is my pleasure to provide a letter of recommendation for the PI Lambda Phi colony of Bloomsburg University. The members have worked extremely hard to complete their programs and initiatives both for their membership and for our campus. I have appreciated the opportunity to work with the colony during their planning process. Their most recent planning process was completed in their very first week of September 2015. This process helped the chapter focus on their remaining programs and allowed the executive board to assign remaining tasks. I was able to assist with reservations throughout the semester and provide regular feedback on their activities to ensure the programs followed the campus policies and procedures.

  • 20. PA  Alpha  Gamma   Bloomsburg  University     20  of  107   Send a minimum of two members to Greek Leadership programming like UIFI, LeaderShape, Futures Quest, Impact, IFC Academy, etc. Short letters from both members telling about their experience important lessons learned from the experience and how those lessons can be applied to the chapter. UIFI Experience To: Chapter My experience at UIFi was life changing. Before entering the weekend I wasn’t expecting very much other then another leadership conference. As soon I got there I knew it was like no other I went to you were forced to think out of your comfort zone, participate in activities that made you work with team members, think how the whole fraternal society is getting a bad reputation and how one can change that and relate everything to valuable lessons to bring back to your fraternity. The team projects at UIFi were very beneficial you had to step out of your comfort zone with your group and really work together at first not even knowing anyone. All the team building projects had a meaning that you can relate back to your fraternity such as, lack of communication, getting all brothers to work together and realizing sometimes there are failures to work with. Once the semester starts I hope to bring a few of these team building games and meanings back to my fraternity. Another thing that stood out to me the most is how much of a bad reputation fraternities are getting. It’s easy to overlook these, but a strong point they made is how well we know our creed. The reason for this is because, if one knows their creed and lives by it every day then we would not be put in to situations you hear on the news continually. The main point they made was to educate fellow brothers on how important living by the creed really is. I hope to run a few presentations explaining our creed and values at a few meetings a semester. The experience at UIFI has changed the way I look at fraternity life as a whole. The week was filled with valuable lessons that can help me with my time at school and life. I hope we can send members each year because, I have made so many great friends and learned so many valuable lessons to bring back to my fraternity. This was not only a conference, but an experience that I will always cherish. Sincerely, Trevor Ahouse Husky Leadership Summit To whom it may concern, The Husky Student Leadership Summit took place Saturday, February 28, 2015 in Carver Hall and the Kehr Union Building of Bloomsburg University. Several Pi Lambda Phi members were asked to attend. The conference featured many experienced alumni and professionals who spoke on leadership paths and undergraduate pursuits that lead to future opportunities in academics and careers. The first session I attended was titled Student Organizational Leader Track: Organizational Branding, Marketing, and Assessment. The presenter first went through what it means to “brand” oneself. She explained that the best candidates for jobs one applies for are the ones who make themselves unique and stand out from the others. By discovering one’s brand, one can convey their experience and reliability with only a few words. I participated in an exercise with the session group in which the presenter instructed us to write three phrases down that define us. I wrote “natural leader”, “honesty is key”, and “orderly work”. Then, she told us to elaborate on
  • 21. PA  Alpha  Gamma   Bloomsburg  University     21  of  107   such subjects. Why are we defining ourselves in this manner? Under “natural leader”, I wrote “leads by example” and “motivator”. Under “honesty is key”, I wrote “academic integrity”, and “truth”. “Orderly work” I elaborated on as “organized and reliable”. Lastly, she told us that it is important to sign up for LinkedIn, to make as many connections to potential employers as possible. The session was very informative and a good starter to the day. The second session, titled Career Path Choices after Undergrad was mainly focused around questions from the audience. Four representatives sat at the front of the room and answered as many questions about leadership, graduate programs, and internships as were asked. Mostly what was taken away from this is the fact that your connections are the most important focus after undergraduate school. Never burn your bridges between potential connections and internships are one of the most important ways to get hired. The session titled Social Justice Leader Track: Uncovering Our Unconscious Learning— Mindsets was in my opinion the most important session I attended. The speaker was a Bloomsburg Mass Communications department alumnus. He spoke on our unconscious biases and prejudices. I connected quite closely with what he preached due to Pi Lambda Phi’s mission, to eliminate prejudice. He explained quite well that there is a difference between diversity and multiculturalism. I learned that by becoming a part of a different culture, or something I am not used to, my multiculturalism expands, but my diversity might not change. New experiences with cultures and ethnicities reduce our prejudice because we can understand each other better by sharing a moment in time. The points he made led to one conclusion: prejudice exists in all of us, but how we embrace it and enhance our understanding of different cultures defines us. I hold this lesson dear to my heart as a member of Pi Lambda Phi because it expands our knowledge of prejudice and how it can be eliminated, as described in our philanthropy. Overall, the conference opened my eyes to different and useful knowledge and opportunity that I can apply in my near future. The presenters’ experience enlightened me to new possibilities and lessons that can be learned by not only members of Pi Lambda Phi, but all students that strive to become leaders in their own respect. Sincerely, Shane DeStefano
  • 22. PA  Alpha  Gamma   Bloomsburg  University     22  of  107   Send minimum of five members to a regional gathering (RRC, OTC, etc.). List of members who attended a regional leadership event ---- short paragraph written by one of those members about what was learned. TO: Patrick Spanner FROM: Matthew Tallent RE: OTC Conference Those who attended the event: Matthew Tallent Trevor Ahouse Christian Marks Ryan Zamorski Mark Manero Sarkis Gulasarian The Regional Recruitment Conference that we held was one of the best I have been to yet. The Phired Up speaker Vince Fabra was amazing and one of the greatest speakers I have heard. His conversation builders were something we can use in all aspects of our lives and already have. Using how and why questions instead of just what furthers a conversation along and makes it a lot more meaningful. It increases the comfortability with you and a potential allowing you to get to know each other on a more personal level. This would show potentials that we actually are truly interested in what they have to say instead of just having a conversation to have one. The techniques for recruitment that we learned here will definitely be implemented into our fraternity. The use of smaller and more frequent events is something that would be greatly beneficial to our chapter. Making sure potentials stay interested in our fraternity is something we will improve on in the future. Since Bloomsburg has a deferred rush keeping potentials involve is crucial. Getting to talk with Pat and Orion as well as other chapters was greatly enlightening as well.
  • 23. List of those who attended Convention (Name, Graduation Year, Chapter Position) --- short paragraph outlining what was learned at convention and how this could be brought back to the chapter. Michael Dellanoce PA Alpha Gamma Bloomsburg chapter Convention was a great experience for me! I wasn’t sure what to expect and little did I realize that I was going to be in for a great experience. I learned a lot of great information regarding recruitment, fundraising, inter-chapter relations, and personal engagement between potentials and new members. While at convention, there were numerous occasions where I thought to myself “I could use this at Bloomsburg.” One of the main things I could bring back was the emphasis on good communication techniques such as not having your phone out, or making sure you listen more than you talk. Fundraising tips were learned from other chapters and from the national organization. A huge opportunity that we saw was Greek Capital Management. In the past we have had brothers who had not met their financial responsibilities which fell on all the brothers who are accountable. Greek Capital Management is a great middle man that would allow no room for error when handling dues. The fee is minimal compared to potential losses. Along with the great tips we learned, getting to know the other members of Pi Lambda Phi was the greatest experience of all. I met brothers from almost every chapter whom I had never connected with before. I feel as though now I have a brotherhood at every Pi Lam chapter I visit now. All in all, I feel that the 2015 Pi Lambda Phi convention taught me a lot and I can use these teachings as a powerful asset for this coming year for my chapter! • 26. PA  Alpha  Gamma   Bloomsburg  University     26  of  107   Continue Scholarship/Academic Program. *Analyze strengths and weaknesses of current program. *Modify and adapt as needed. Submit a review of the chapter's Academic Plan (areas of improvement, important areas of strength to duplicate in the future, necessary adjustments to be made for the future). ΠΛΦ Fraternity – Academics PA ΑΓ Chapter at Bloomsburg University Overview – Setting a New Standard Starting in Spring 2015, Pi Lambda Phi PA Alpha Gamma chapter at Bloomsburg University has implemented its first academic program intended to encourage brothers to stay above the 2.7 GPA standard mandated by Pi Lambda Phi International Headquarters. In the Spring 2015, there were five brothers put on academic probation. During probation, these brothers were required to record times that they attended library hours during the week. A paper with grades report and the library hours log-in was handed to the academic chairman at each chapter meeting. Disciplinary action was taken if a brother on academic probation did not attend their library hours. This system was severely flawed. Only one of the five brothers was able to remove himself from probation for the Fall 2015 semester. It is clear the academic program must change. The criticisms of the last program were as follows: • There is no way to tell if the brothers were truly attending their library hours except for taking a picture at the library, which does not prove they are studying. • Punishments only worsen the relationship between the brothers on academic probation and the scholarship chairman. • There is not enough positive incentive for brothers to keep their GPA as high as possible. • Goals – Improve and Maintain Pi Lambda Phi requires all of its brothers to be at or above a 2.7 GPA, so naturally our first and most important goal is to be able to remove all seven brothers from academic probation. This will be executed similarly to UNC Pi Lambda Phi ΩΒ chapter’s Academic Monitoring Program (AMP), which is explained later in this document. Historically, our chapter maintained the highest cumulative GPA average on campus among Greek organizations for the first four semesters we were established. Since then, our Pi Lambda Phi has dropped to second highest GPA average, when our cumulative average dropped slightly below 3.0. Our second goal is to improve our cumulative GPA average back above 3.0 and reinstate our organization as the highest GPA average on campus. Enforcement – A Reasonable Alternative to Punishments People in general tend to respond negatively to punishments. As stated previously, the previous academic program punished any brother on academic probation that skipped library hours. The punishment usually entailed a loss of social privileges or a fine by Standards Board or Executive Board. All fines will be eliminated from the new program, while the losses of social privileges and risk of expulsion from the fraternity will remain.
  • 27. PA  Alpha  Gamma   Bloomsburg  University     27  of  107   As per standards, if a brother is not able to achieve a 2.7 GPA within three semesters of being on academic probation, that brother will be at risk of expulsion. Judicial Board, Standards Board, and Executive Board will hold the final decisions of these situations. In addition, instead of library hours for the brothers on academic probation, the Academic Monitoring Program (AMP) will become active for these brothers. AMP – The New Plan Each brother on academic probation will be given an AMP sheet. This sheet will have lines for a professor or tutor’s signature. Every time a brother gets an A or B on an assignment worth 10% or more of their final grade, receives help from a tutor, attends a review session, visits a professor or TA during office hours, or meets with an advisor, they will be rewarded positive points. When a brother receives a grade lower than a B on an assignment worth 10% or more of the final grade, they will be given negative points. Points will be awarded as follows: ● 4 points for an A on an assignment worth 10% of final grade or more ● 2 points for a B on an assignment worth 10% of final grade or more ● 2 points for attending a tutoring session ● 1 point for attending a class review ● 1 point for visiting a professor or TA during office hours ● 1 point for meeting with an advisor ● -1 points for a C on an assignment worth 10% of final grade or more ● -3 points for a D on an assignment worth 10% of final grade or more ● -5 points for an F on an assignment worth 10% of final grade or more Each participating brother will be required to earn 10 points per month. 10 points monthly will grant the brother his privileges for the next month. If a participating brother fails to get 10 points, that brother will be suspended from social privileges during the next month. If a brother falls into negative points, they may be asked to attend a meeting with the academic chairman. Duties of the Chairman – An Overseer The academic chairman will hold a meeting with the participating brothers of AMP at the end of every month and serve as an advisor of sorts. He will collect the AMP sheets from each of the participating brothers and evaluate progress. He will also collect syllabi or class exam schedules from each member to ensure all grades are being reported on the AMP sheet. Any conflicts will be brought up directly to Judicial Board, or in extreme cases, Executive Board. Financial Incentives – To be Determined It is to be brought up in the near future whether there will be rewards given out for highest semester GPA in the fraternity, most improved brother, or Dean’s List. Ideas for awards include but are not limited to: a dinner paid for by the fraternity, gift cards, or discounted dues.

DATE: October 20th, 2015 TO: Pi Lambda Phi FROM: Matthew Tallent RE: Philanthropy Event 2 Pi Lambda Phi at Bloomsburg University is working on a new philanthropy event along with the BU Alliance. In Bloomsburg an Anti-Discrimination ordinance was brought before the town council. The Ordinance would prohibit businesses from discriminating against who they serve including members of different sexual orientations. The council meeting went as follows by this report from the Town Administrator: William Lowthert http://bloomsburgpa.org/wp- content/uploads/121514TCMin.pdf . I reached out to the LGBTQ club who then connected us with the BU Alliance. We attended a training session on how to approach the businesses with Dr. Oleksiak. We then had several meetings on putting together and dividing up the zones. On Friday December the fourth fifteen of our brothers went out to complete this philanthropy project. We had some businesses place the sticker in the window and some business not for either corporate or other reasons. Although not everyone decided to join the campaign it was interesting to see the ones who did. People were engaged in this campaign and believed in what to also provide a more inclusive business environment in Bloomsburg. One manager works for a nationwide business which has regulations on whether you can place anything in the window. He has been calling me for the last two weeks updating me on whether he will be able to post the sticker or not. Even if this business is not able to it is nice to know people are so dedicated to a campaign like this. He could have said he would try and brushed us off, however he is working hard to be a part of the message. It is reassuring to know that there are people who share in our message in every community. • 35. PA  Alpha  Gamma   Bloomsburg  University     35  of  107   first event of the kind where we dealt with prejudicial issues even though we had raised money for them in the past. It was a great way to actually address issues of hatred face to face. It was emotional to actually see what some people were called for being who they are, honestly quite disheartening. However the atmosphere was very well spirited and we got to relate to people on some of the issues they had faced. It was nice to let people know that they were not alone they had hundreds of people showing how they too were or are facing the same thing. Gretchen Osterman our Greek Life director told me that a lot of people are hesitant when addressing prejudicial issues because of the tension that comes with it. However she said we created a fun atmosphere and people actually felt better about those issues after participating. We were stationed across from the L.G.B.T. club who was selling shirts and raising awareness. I talked to their group later who was very happy with our event as well and most of their members participated. We talked and are going to do events in collaboration next year. He also said that he would contact the Women’s Resource Center, Multicultural and Diversity Center, Best Buddies, and other groups that share the same message. In all we made many bonds with fellow students, staff, groups, and other members of the community. It was a great way to deal with issues of prejudice through a high spirited event. I was very proud of all my brothers who worked to make this event the best it could be. When we do these types of events we not only educate others but also ourselves about how relevant the message: “Elimination of Prejudice” really is.

PI LAMBDA PHI FRATERNITY Founded at Yale University March 21, 1895 by Frederick Manfred Werner, Louis Samter Levy, Henry Mark Fisher as North America's First Non-Sectarian and Non-Discriminatory Fraternity Dear Bloomsburg University Faculty Member, The Bloomsburg University colony of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity first began in 2012. Since then, Pi Lambda Phi was named Bloomsburg University’s Organization of The Year, has held the highest GPA amongst fraternities, and has grown to one of the biggest fraternities on campus. Our fraternity’s philanthropy is to eliminate prejudice in our school and local community; a message we carry with us every day. The brothers of Pi Lambda Phi work hard to facilitate to the needs of the community and help it grow in a positive manner. We are constantly searching for more opportunities to further our philanthropy and cultivate our community. The undergraduate brothers are working to further expand our roots in Bloomsburg University by networking with the faculty members, professors, and administration that guide us towards success. We recognize the benefits of building strong relationships between our organization and the faculty members. Pi Lambda Phi invites you to our First Annual Faculty Meet and Greet Luncheon on Monday, November 30, 2015. The luncheon will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Services Center Conference Room 140. Food and drink catering will be provided by Steph’s Subs, a local sandwich shop. This informal luncheon allows us to connect with faculty on a personal level and enables us to be more involved in our campus community. If you have any questions concerning this event, or are seeking future correspondence with our organization, feel free to email me at pam11267@huskies.bloomu.edu or by phone at (570)-369-2226. Submit a copy of the advertising which was done for the event --- outline of the program and what was covered during the event --- short paragraph with reflections on what went well with the event and ways to improve this event or a similar event in the future. The alcohol and drug awareness program was an informative look into the drastic effects that alcohol and drug abuse put on the human body. For the most part, many of the members are readily aware of the negative health effects that come about through the misuse of alcohol and drugs, however the facts continue to be startling. This program is something which should be available for the entire student body of Bloomsburg University, as well as highly encouraged. The information from this program is something that all of the student body should be taught. Also discussed was the effective ways to prevent the spread of alcohol and drugs through organizations such as Greek Life on campus. One area of possible improvement could be the information about alcohol and drug abuse. Much of the information could be taken as common knowledge. However, the information still makes an impact and helps reiterate the main point of the program which is to show the devilish effects of alcohol and drug abuse.

Chapter Recruitment Plan Outline The purpose of this document is to ensure a successful semester of recruitment by providing an outline of 6 cylinder events, small activities and chapter recruitment education to guide your chapter’s semester recruitment plans throughout the semester. Step 1 – Set Goals and Note Important Dates Before any real planning can take place, it is essential to set your goals and have a clear picture of the upcoming semester. As you set chapter goals, take the time to have conversations and gather feedback from the other men within your chapter. Recruitment is a chapter-wide focus, therefore having the buy-in from other members is vital to your success. In addition to mapping out your chapter’s goals, take a detailed look at the upcoming semester. Look at all important dates including first day of classes, start of the formal rush period, any holidays or days off during the semester, important days for the university (i.e. homecoming, Greek Week, etc), mid- terms, and finals. Goals: Number of members you would like to initiate into your chapter this semester: __10___ Number of bids you would like to have accepted this semester: __17___ Number of bids you would like to offer this semester: _20___ Number of total names you want on your Names List (end of semester): __75__ Important Dates: Every chapter member should be aware of these dates. Summer Recruitment Step 4 – Create a Recruitment Calendar: The recruitment calendar is a critical component of your recruitment plan because it is how every brother will be held accountable to knowing when, where, and what is going on. Generally, there are 3-4 weeks when Formal Recruitment (often initiated via an IFC) begins along with Informal Recruitment. Below is an example calendar and day-by-day plan for the first month, we recommend using google calendar for efficiency, however there are other available options. What distinguishes Formal Recruitment from Informal Recruitment are the pre-planned IFC activities that request the involvement of all fraternities (i.e. Meet The Brothers, IFC Field Day etc) This may “look” overwhelming” however it is what all successful chapters use in some fashion to have an organized and well-planned recruitment process. The object is to not over program you, but to provide an outline for what Recruitment success will look like throughout the upcoming semester. The semester should be looked at as a series of two week segments. During each segment, your chapter should aim to achieve the following:
  • 65. PA  Alpha  Gamma   Bloomsburg  University     65  of  107   1. Host 2 small events where potential new members have the opportunity to meet brothers, 2. Facilitate one six cylinder event which generates names that are added to the Names List, 3. Spend 5-10 minutes covering recruitment related training during a chapter meeting, and 4. Update the chapter names list to reflect the progress and relationships built by the brothers during that time frame. Although variety of events is highly encouraged, it is also encouraged to repeat events that have been successful in the past. Trying to “re-invent the wheel” each semester prevents your chapter from taking advantage of important lessons learned and building upon past successes. Also we want to raise anyone's GPA who fell below a 2.75 and get them to meet that requirement. -Volunteering: Our goal for volunteering is to gain at least 495-500 community service hours as a chapter in Spring semester 2015. -Chartering: Our goal is to gain our charter by October. Working to complete a step a week. -Philanthropy: For Fall Semester 2015, Goal is to hold a Walk for equality by October, have 300-500 people attend on campus, and raise 1500-2500 dollars. -Recruitment: For Spring Semester of 2015, our goal is to initiate 10 new men; have 12 bids extended and ten accepted. PI LAMBDA PHI BLOOMSBURG UNIVERSITY DATE: January 4, 2015 TO: Patrick Spanner FROM: Matthew Tallent RE: Upcoming Goals For 2015 The five goals being set for the PA Alpha Gamma chapter of Pi Lambda Phi fit in the bounds of the S.M.A.R.T goals. Anyone of these five goals can be met with hard work and proper leadership, which I plan to ingrain into this fraternity in the coming Spring semester. In the following I will be outlining goals for: our fraternity to be chartered, academics, philanthropy, recruitment, and establishing ourselves in the community. All of these goals when met will leave our fraternity with a well-established foundation for greatness in the years to follow. First and foremost our goal as a fraternity for the coming year is to get our charter. Over this winter break I have been doing everything possible in coordination with my executive board to complete the steps we can. Originally no one had access to the chartering checklist, with exception to some of the old executive board. I was able to get the link and share it with the rest of our fraternity to make it a group effort. Zach Shuster worked on getting everyone into committees, and Michael Frauenhoffer is working on a budget, as well as a standards list with Sarkis Gulasarian. These are just a few of the strides we have taken so far to further this fraternity over winter break. Phase one is almost completed however the documentation for phase one has not been provided to our nationals. I have talked to Bill O'Donnell who has the documentation needed, which I will get from him and make it available to nationals. With this being done we will have many of the tasks completed on the checklist and should be done phase one before the Spring semester starts. When the documentation is submitted along with the completion of phase one by the start of this spring semester we have around thirty three tasks left to be completed in phases two and three. Some of these tasks are already being worked on and the rest we will work hard to complete and provide documentation for in Spring 2015. Our goal
  • 82. PA  Alpha  Gamma   Bloomsburg  University     82  of  107   is to be chartered by Fall 2015. Our executive board realizes that we should already be chartered which is why we all know how hard we will have to work in the coming year. On the topic of academics, our fraternity has done relatively well. In the fall semester 2014 we were informed that our fraternity had received the highest GPA out of all the fraternities on campus. With that being said we did have brothers who dropped out do to academic reasons. This is something that no one wants to happen of course, however action to change this has not yet been taken. Part of this was due to a lack in having an advisor which is now resolved. Besides having an advisor further action will be taken to ensure better outcomes with grades in the following year. One of our plans is to work with brothers who have lower GPAs by either tutoring them or mandating library hours until improvements are made. Also mixer privileges may be suspended to certain brothers who are not meeting their academic requirements. This is to ensure accountability relative to our value of academics. Philanthropy is one of my main goals for the spring semester because so far we really have not held a formal philanthropy event. We have had small events in which we raised around fifty dollars however we can do much better. I have started a philanthropy committee in which a few brothers and I have been working on ideas we could do. We are planning to do a wall of hate this semester which has been done at other Pi Lam chapters and worked well. We plan to keep the wall of hate up for a week and at the end of the week do a walk for equality in which we may charge everyone walking five dollars. Walks are something that are very effective for raising money at Bloomsburg and usually receive a large turnout. Many clubs on campus share our same goal of eliminating prejudice or something of the sort. We would reach out to all of these clubs to help us raise awareness for our issue and engage them in walking with us to promote equality. Also we would extend an invitation to the rest of greek life to come out and join us which would help build participation numbers. If participation numbers are as high as we anticipate this fundraiser could raise a few thousand, which would be well above anything we have done before. This may seem like an unattainable goal however with hard work this fundraising can be in place by April. For a fraternity that has only started three years ago our fraternity has done rather well with recruitment. Devin has done a good job assembling rush events for us in the past year and we have full faith in him to do the same this year. We have already built a solid foundation with other greek organizations and students on campus. We attend many social events throughout the semester which help builds our reputation. Not only are we social but we respect people, which others definitely recognize and keep in mind when they are rushing because it reflects how they will be treated. Whenever we have a rush event our turnout is very large. Being a non-hazing fraternity has been beneficial to our rush numbers, giving our fraternity some of the largest new member classes on campus. Spring semester we hope to at least gain fifteen to twenty new members. This would help boost our roster and help us to get our name out more so than it already is. If we keep growing at the rate we are I believe we could be the largest fraternity on campus in the upcoming years. My last goal for our fraternity as a whole encapsulates part of the reason I joined Pi Lambda Phi. Being a force in the community, possibly the most important goal as a fraternity. Recognizing problems or needs in one’s own community and taking charge on them is what a man is all about. Growing ourselves as men and holding each other to the values we swore to be accountable to is very important. Furthering our community is something we have done already as a fraternity with our community service. So far we have participated in town cleanups, park cleanups, tree plantings, Special Olympic activities etc.… I would like to further that this year
  • 83. PA  Alpha  Gamma   Bloomsburg  University     83  of  107   with first and foremost getting chartered and completing a large philanthropic event. Once we are chartered we will be able to elect our members to the interfraternity council which will help us be more involved on campus. Secondly I would like to do more events that help the community because I believe that is the best form of active recruitment. When you meet people at community service events you know if they come and rush they’ll be the guys who get stuff done in your fraternity. This semester I want to do a tree planting event on campus and in the community for Arbor Day which falls in April. This would be a great way for us to further establish ourselves and for people to remember us in the community. Every time we do an event of this nature it helps break negative stereotypes fraternity bare. I know these goals all seem grand on paper but I realize they are just words without work to back them they will be nothing. I keep that in mind because many promises have been made but the work hasn’t followed. I have always given a hundred percent to any position I take on and plan to do the same with leading this fraternity. Along with my executive board and other brothers these goals will be attained with our hard work. If this can be done every year we will grow and further ourselves not only as a fraternity, but as men. Continue to update and maintain colony website. Letter from a representative of the Chapter Advisory Board recommending the colony become a chartered chapter. Dearest Executive Council of Pi Lambda Phi, I am writing you to inform you that the Colony at Bloomsburg University Pa. Alpha Gamma has completed the work to become a full Chapter. The Brothers at Pa. Alpha Gamma are in good standing at the university and are leaders on campus. I have worked with the colony for just under a year, I have meet the brother in person on campus they are ready for this next step. They live the creed and they fully understand that this not about four years but a life time. They have a small but growing and dedicated group of Alumnae that is active on and off campus. They have strong communication with each other, true brotherhood. I hope you see this reflected in the paper work and effort that have made to become a fully recognized chapter of Pi Lambda Phi. It would be an honor for me to call them Brothers. Fraternally yours, Patrick Lincoln Chapter Advisor Pa. Alpha Gamma

PA  Alpha  Gamma   Bloomsburg  University     87  of  107   Letter of acknowledgement signed by the IFC President and head of the Greek Life office that verifies the group has remained in good standing during the school year. Letter from IFC Advisor and President stating that the colony is recognized and a positive addition to the Greek Community. To whom it may concern: Since the time I had written the letter over winter break, Pi Lam has keep there foot on the gas. Joe DiMaggio IFC President
