ACCELERATING
TECHNOLOGY
Technology has improved human
life in many ways, and those im-
provements are likely to keep on
happening at an increasingly ac-
celerated pace. FLI seeks to en-
sure that the most powerful tech-
nologies of tomorrow are used
in ways that are beneficial, not
harmful, to human society.
MINIMISING RISK
One of the earliest human technol-
ogies was fire, which we learned
to navigate through trial and er-
ror, learning from our mistakes. In
the modern age, with technolo-
gies such as artificial intelligence,
synthetic biology and even nucle-
ar weapons, this method of learn-
ing is no longer an appropriate
strategy.
FLI supports research into better
ways of safeguarding the future
while still embracing the advance-
ment of technology. The current
focus revolves around the benefi-
cial use of AI and reducing risks
from biotechnology and nuclear
weapons.
