Biography
¡Hola! My name is Carmen L. Harman. I was born into two cultures: Spanish and
American. My father is American and my mother is a native of Spain. I grew up in
Spain the first 8 years of my life, including every summer thereafter, and Baltimore
for the remainder of my childhood. I reside in Howard County and volunteer as an
Emergency Medical Technician with the Ellicott City Fire Department. My
professional life has consisted of teaching Spanish for 7 years at the high school
level at Maryland and Virginia schools and an after school program at my local
elementary school. I hold an Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate from the
Maryland State Department of Education as well as an Advanced Professional
Teaching License from the Virginia Department of Education. My BA degree is in
Modern Language and Linguistics and my Master’s degree in Education. I have
completed an intensive course in Spanish at the University of Salamanca in Spain
and was awarded a stipend to study Advanced Placement Spanish at the University
of New Mexico. Students describe me as a creative teacher who loves teaching
children and adults Spanish. I look forward to teaching you or your children!
