The Blue Institute is a non-profit institution committed to collaborative education & research
engagements of public, private, and governmental sectors in a common mission to establish
clean and sustainable water solutions.
Primary areas of Institute focus include Clean Water Technologies & Aquaculture

Our academic program
delivers a cross-
disciplinary water-centric
“semester away”
curriculum to 200
undergraduates in a
unique setting with
integrated research
science access.
The institute’s sustainable
water research
opportunities will bring
private and public sector
projects and scientists
together in a unique
academic and ecosystem
environment.
Both water quality and
pathological testing labs will
support municipal and
commercial customers’
water testing needs as well
as the regional shellfishing
community.
A clean water tech hub
incubator, and test
beds help to drive
growth of “Blue”
technologies on a
regional and global
dimension.

participation in
the 2016 EforAll
program!
The Blue Institute at Cape Cod is a strategic consortium of collaborative
partners including leading research universities, professional
organizations, industry, local communities and aqua farms working
together to design and create a strong cross-disciplinary academic
program, research facility, and water testing program and labs which
take advantage of the highly unique fresh and saltwater ecosystem at
and surrounding Cape Cod.

The Blue Institute has embarked on a multi-phased growth plan:
The Blue Institute management team is in the midst of a
funding campaign to formally launch Phase 1 of the project.
This small team is looking for commitments totaling $1.5M
to initiate the research, academic and testing departments.

Phase 1 – Ramping
Up & Outreach
(2016-2018)
Planning for initial research projects and
initiatives to start summer 2017, followed shortly
thereafter by academic program delivery and
testing services capabilities operating out of
temporary ramp-up facilities based at locations
in the town of Yarmouth.

Phase 2 – Enhancing
Core Pillars
(2018-2019)
Rollout of enhanced department capabilities,
services and technology relationships using
temporary distributed facilities across Yarmouth
already identified and occupied.

with follow on
optimization efforts
Phase 3 – Building a
Permanent Future
(2018-2021)
Develop long term permanent consolidated
campus plan, complete capital funding and
launch and complete construction for
consolidated permanent campus by end of
2021
Planning for permanent
facility buildout to
complete 2021
From a technology standpoint, the Blue Institute will
incorporate curriculum inclusion, prioritize research, and
integrate the latest in aquatic technologies and marine
robotics. The technology employed will surely engage
students, enable research, drive efficiencies in water cleaning
capabilities and aqua farming, and inspire imaginative and
innovative solutions based on the latest sound clean water
scientific inquiry.

The Blue Institute is unique globally. It is being designed to bring
academic and private sector scientists, practitioners, and students
together in a collaborative and innovative host research facility
renowned for its environmental legacy. This world class research
environment offers testing sites, laboratories, internships and an
incubator for researchers and undergraduates immersed in a
unique water centric cross-disciplinary fusion curriculum and
experiential learning exposing them to in-depth water knowledge
and the rapidly expanding array of career opportunities.
