Live action video collages present the rich diversity of the US – weaving
together images capturing magical moments as well as the daily grind, both
humble and luxurious, from the tacky to the sublime – the goal was to create a
tapestry of life in the United States, celebrating the spirit and exposing the soul
of the people that make up this great land.
Short energetic historical segments for each of eight regions and Atlanta,
introduce and give context to the current day scenes that follow. The
infographic animation design tells the regional history in a conceptual
and interesting way. Graphically the animation mixes several aesthetic
languages and design styles as it incorporates handmade collages,
vintage art, landscape pictures and video footage.

Donna and Mark Tuttle teamed up with Atlanta based Broadcast Solutions to
design; fabricate mounting, power and playback equipment; and install
automated equipment—all self contained within a Homeland Security
restricted control area.
The 200-foot wide wall area became a unique challenge for both
content creation and the physical presentation as no external access
was permitted. The size and shape of each narrow screen made typical
video editing inadequate.
The three large screens were fabricated from 108 46” monitors, 36 screens
each, using the latest LCD with LED backlight commercial display from
Samsung Electronics. These screens allow for the creation of near-seamless
walls while taking advantage of the benefits of LED technology: cool, low
energy, and long-term reliable operation. Each unit has thin bezels of 5.2mm
(0.2”) allowing for 10.3mm (0.4”) bezel-to-bezel in the video wall
configuration. The monitors are ultra-slim 29.9mm (1.2”) and light
weight (26 lbs.) in comparison with other LCD units that are available.
3840 x 540 pixel video files play out across each independently
controlled grid of 36 screens. The screen units are tipped at 18
degrees for convenient viewing of this silent presentation.
