1. Healthy Relationships ~ Mentoring
Every moment is a teaching moment, however the student must be able to discern who the
"Instructor" is and what is being taught.
Relationship
The mentor-mentee relationship is an exchange of value built upon TRUST. The mentor serves as a
teacher, trainer, counselor and a model of personal growth and development.
Mentoring is an ongoing process of mutual growth and development where the mentor and mentee
compliment, CO-LABOR, CO-OPERATE, CO-LLABORATE in hopes of achieving a shared vision and
mission.
A student cannot grow beyond the personal growth and development of her or his teacher. This is why
the mentor-mentee relationship is so pivotal. We must move past the person that is delivering the
message and focus upon the message itself.
Investment
We must make deposits (INVESTMENT OF TIME, TALENT AND EFFORT ) to make withdrawals.
• A minus (-) turns into a plus (+) when we become relational.
• Liabilities (-) turn into Assets (+) when we become relational.
Voices
The voice of your mentor can calm any storm in your life IF you accept SUPERVISION. This voice waters
dry areas in your life and makes the rough places plain (or level). A level is a place of balance, we go
from one place of balance to the next place of balance (PROGRESSION). If you DECIDE cut off the voice
of your mentor you cut off one of your life lines.
Question: What happens if you don't pay the water bill?
Answer: The water gets cut off.
Resolution: We must then make a call in order to pay the water bill. Another deposit must be made.
Your mentor's voice should silence all other voices that are contrary to your PURPOSE. There is peace in
the midst of the storm.
