The document summarizes the dissertation of Mary Ann Grace B. Dulay titled "Students' Achievement, Attitude, and Motivation in Science Using 5E Model". The study determined how the 5E instructional model impacted 237 Grade 7 students' science achievement, attitude, and motivation. Students were grouped by ability. Results showed significant differences in achievement, attitude, and motivation between ability groups. Science achievement and grades improved for all students regardless of ability using the 5E model.
1. ABSTRACT
DULAY, MARY ANN GRACE B. (2015). Students’ Achievement, Attitude,
and Motivation in Science Using 5E Model. Doctor of Philosophy in Science
Education. Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University South La Union Campus,
College of Graduate Studies, Agoo, La Union.
Adviser: Peralta, Tessie Q., Ph. D.
The transformation of Science instructional environment to an inquiry-based,
student centered approach using 5E Model could develop the rich Science background of
students. This descriptive experimental research determined the students’ achievement,
attitude, and motivation in Science through 5E Model. Using purposive/deliberate
random sampling technique, 237 Grade 7 students were chosen and grouped according
to ability. The Motivation towards Science Learning, Scientific Attitude Inventory,
Biology/Physics Achievement test were administered. Statistical data were treated using
weighted means, frequency counts, percentages, Pearson moment correlation, t-test,
Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) and
Regression Analysis. Results showed that Science achievement, attitude, and motivation
of ability-grouped students differ significantly. Basic science process skills were used as
covariate. Improvement in Science achievement and grade in all students regardless of
their ability groupings are significant using 5E Model.
Keywords: ability, groupings, inquiry, student-centered
