7. Medical Nutrition Therapy
A Normal diet is recommended with emphasis
on high fiber foods that will add bulk to the
stools, thus relieving the constricting pressure
and promoting normal bowel motility.
FIBER: A Daily fiber intake of 20-30g is
recommended, additional fiber in the form of
bulk laxatives (e.g., psyllium) may also be
necessary.
8. Foods with fiber, resistant starches and
oligosaccharides may serve as prebiotic foods,
which favor the maintenance of ‘healthy’ microflora
and resistance to pathogenic infections.
Commercial supplementation are more beneficial.
Avoid Large meals, excess fat, caffeine, alcohol in
diarrhea predominant IBS and alternating diarrhea
and constipation.
9. Elimination of diet that focus on avoiding dairy
products and gas forming foods, such as
legumes and certain vegetables like cabbage,
beans, and broccoli) and fruits (grapes, raisins,
cherries and cantaloupe).
Relaxation and stress reduction techniques may be
useful.
