TUWAKUZE AFRICA JAPANESE
EMBASSY VISIT
Event Leader: Majune Socrates
Executive Summary:
Tuwakuze Africa held its first ever Japanese Embassy visit on 27th May 2016 as per the
Tuwakuze Africa Strategic Plan-2016 (Office of the Mentorship Coordinator). The aim of
the excursion was to give the students exposure to the Japanese culture.
Summary of the Activities:
The excursion was held on 27th May 2016 at the Embassy of Japan. The total number of
participant was 35 (29-students from Bethsaida school, 3 teachers, 1 Tuwakuze Africa volunteer and 2
Tuwakuze Africa Board members).
This was not only an exciting opportunity for the participant to interact outside the
classroom setting but also an opportunity to learn the Japanese culture. Some of the
activities that participants were involved in included:
Introductory clip on Japan and its culture
Introduction to the Japanese Language
Origami - Japanese art of paper folding
Shodo – Japanese art of calligraphy
Traditional Japanese Games
Quiz on Japan

Conclusion:
This event achieved its objective of exposing Pupils that Tuwakuze Africa supports. As a
result, Tuwakuze Africa featured in the April – June 2016 Japanese embassy Bulletin,
http://www.ke.emb-japan.go.jp/files/000176498.pdf. This visit offers a platform for
future excursions for Pupils to Embassies and other places that Tuwakuze Africa deems
fit.
Based on the success of this event, Tuwakuze Africa will sponsor three Pupils to contest
in the annual Japanese Language Speech Contest for 2017. This event occurs between
March and April and it has two segments, the Japanese language speech contest and the
Japanese cultural contest. Pupils will participate in the latter segment.
