3. Is it possible for classical music and jazz to blend, does genres really exist?
I have been struggling with these questions the last three years where I have,
together with Lars Jansson, worked on something we think will make a new
impression. This cooperation with Lars has been one of the most giving projects
in my life.
We have a lot in common both in spiritual and musical matters. We have been
practising yoga and meditation for many years and I believe that the reason why
this project sees the light is our mutual feeling and love for the lyrical aspect, both
in life and in music. Lars has an amazing ability to nurture every tone which is
unique., a presence and joy that is completely infectious.Apresence and joy that
is completely infectious.
I have come to the realization that music is after all music. There are genres, but
we live in a time where these frames and rules have become quite uninteresting,
to dare to dive into something new with uncertainty and curiosity is what have
driven artists in all times. My invention, the “expression slide”, was a cohesive
force in this and an important vehicle for creating new sounds and timbres. It was
also an important factor why Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation so generously
supported my idea of making a crossover cd with new musical material.
Christer Sjöström has been a great force in making this cd. His great warmth and
generosity, unbelievable timing and wonderful feeling for challenges during our
process are amazing.
Fredrik Jonsson with his bass has contributed with his clean, natural playing and
his great sense of humour. I am excited to see what kind of imprint our music will
make. We have done it with great love and respect, both for our similarities and
differences.
I wish to express my gratefulness to my Guruji.

5. Magnus Båge recieved his soloist diploma at the Royal
College of Music in Stockholm. He has since then been
frequently engaged as a soloist with orchestras such as
Brussel Chamber Orchestra, Malmö Symphony
Orchestra, Umeå Sinfonietta, Dala Sinfonietta and
Gävle Symphony Orchestra. His first solo CD “Flute
Music” was released in 2003 and recieved brilliant
reviews both in Sweden and internationally. Magnus
own invention, a special kind of mouthpiece, which he
calls the Expression slide, provides new opportunities
to create effects on a flute that has never been possible before. The mouthpice
has inspired several composers to compose directly for Magnus. Rolf Martins-
son wrote “Shimmering Blue” 2005, Jan Sandström “Flute Concerto” 2009 and
Anna-Lena Laurin wrote “Concerto for flute, strings and harp” in 2011.
Lars Jansson is a jazz pianist, composer,
arranger and educator. His trio has long been
one of the most renowned jazz groups in
Sweden. In 1998, Lars was nominated to the
Danish Jazzpar Prize and he became the first
jazz professor inAarhus, Denmark. He was
honored in Denmark with a Grammy in
2001 for the ”Best InternationalAlbum,”
Hope, the Lars Jansson Trio. Other than jazz
piano trio, Lars has composed music for
small jazz groups, big bands, choirs, saxo-
phone quartets, woodwind quintets, string quartets and chamber orchestra. “Jazz
music is one of the few human activities that succeeds in combining responsibility
for the collective with individual freedom. The great challenge for every musician
is to find his personal sound, to express his true self, and at the same time, to find
his role in the group. In our search for self knowledge, finding meaning in our
lives and to fulfill our destiny, jazz music is a fantastic art form to help us on this
continuous path.” www.larsprof.wix.com/larsjansson
