This BeLoved Miracles couple dug down deep, and they together took the
leap of faith. All because Kat found her Romeo, shared in discovering their

Today we welcome Kat & Romeo, ex-fast food manager and ex-personal
trainer, who decided to quit their jobs, sell everything and go for their
dreams in October 2011. Since then they have created a successful digital
business, are now job free and living on the beaches of Costa Rica!

Welcome to this next episode of The BeLoved Miracles Couples Project.
Today from Norway we are reaching all the way to Costa Rica, hi guys! Kat
and Romeo hello from Norway!
Hello! How are you guys?
Let me do a brief introduction for you. Today we are welcoming Kat and
Romeo x-fast food manager and x-personal trainer who decided to quit
their jobs, sell everything and go for their dreams in October 2011 since
then they have created a successful digital business and are job free living
on the beaches of Costa Rica. So Kat and Romeo where does your story
begin?

0:51 Kat – Our story began when we were living in Toronto Canada. When
we met we were young and dumb and full of dreams. I remember our rst
conversation, Romeo was a fast food manager and he made these really
delicious sandwiches and I love sandwiches. I worked in the mall and I
went and bought a sandwich. And this is my little joke, it was love at rst
bite.
1:21 Kat – Our rst conversation when we met we actually shared our
dreams. I wanted to travel. I was still in high school and I wanted to travel
the world and just wander and do 1 million di erent things in my life. And
it was the same with him. From there we started going out, Romeo was
working as a fast food manager and I kinda jumped around from job to job
for a long time. I worked in retail, I worked at a call center I even did door
to door sales. I just was really lost I just didn’t know what to do. I went to
school for history and then I became a personal trainer.
1:57 Kat – I loved it and I de nitely had this entrepreneurial spirit. I
remember having a conversation with Romeo once where I told him I don’t
ever want to have a job again. Honestly at that time he was a little bit
upset.
2:11 Romeo – I think at that point when you told me that, I think I almost
had a heart attack. Just a little bit.
2:17 Kat – And then from there we got to this point where we read the four
hour work week by Tim Ferris, I highly recommend it. And it was just this
point Oct. 2011 it was before Christmas, Christmas was coming. Christmas
for us was always a bad time.

2:33 Kat – Because he worked in the mall, so he worked in the food court
and it was just a horrible time. We didn’t get to see each other he had like
two days o in the month. And it was like back breaking work. So we read
this book and it was telling us this thing that we could follow our dream of
time freedom and location independence and living this digital laptop
lifestyle.
2:55 Kat – So we were just like let’s just do it. It was terrifying. We just
decided we were going to sell everything, sell our condo. We didn’t know
what we’re going to do we didn’t really know anything about business
online. We decided to go for it. And we just started to work backwards and
then started to figure things out and that’s how we came online.
3:15 Timothy – Romeo you have me itching to hear the other side of this,
was it love at her first her-bite for you as well?
3:21 Romeo – Yes it was actually. When I saw her I was just like, there’s
something about this girl. It wasn’t because she was coming every single
day, buying the same thing. It wasn’t just that she was getting her friends
to buy her sandwiches from me. I just thought it was really special you
know like seeing sparks.

3:45 Kat – Yeah, he was really shy and I was kind of shy too so I asked my
friend to ask him for his phone number. (Romeo – Yeah, you did!)
3:59 Timothy – Kool, really kool you guys so love sparks, business sparks
and literally up rooting from Canada to Costa Rica. Why Costa Rica?
4:15 Kat – When we started we were going to start traveling. So that’s what
we were talking about for a long time, so when we actually quit and we
were in this phase of trying to sell our place and thinking of what we were
going to do. I really wanted to go to Europe, I was born in Poland and we
actually went to Poland once to visit family there. And I wanted to travel
Europe and do the whole backpacking thing there.
4:47 Kat – Out of the blue one day Romeo took a map and closed his eyes,
pointed and it landed on Costa Rica. He’s like let’s go to Costa Rica. I was
like there are huge bugs there. I was like terri ed, I had never been there
and I was so scared but he was like so sure about it.
5:11 Kat – Then we just landed in Costa Rica. We were going to travel and
then we just fell in love with it and stayed and it became home base.
5:17 Romeo – Yeah we were just going to stay here for about six months.
Then we were like naw this place is too nice. We had everything here like
all the natural foods, all the beaches and stu . There is no way we are
going back to Canada. So we stayed.
5:31 Timothy – Brilliant, Wow! So weave in a system. Where does a system
come to your awareness. That that is what you were actually implementing
and what does it change for you guys when you do that?

5:43 Kat – Well I will say that when we started we were trying to follow the
whole Tim Ferris model where we were trying to create our own product.
We had a lot of ideas, there were so many ideas we had. We were bringing
an idea into reality and knowing if there is a market for it and doing a lot of
research. It took us a while like six months of us just going through that
trying to create a product and not really knowing what to do with it. We
really didn’t know anything about online.
6:13 Kat – So Romeo did ended up creating a physical product that was
really cool and we had it shipped and prototyped and then we were like OK
will how do we sell this online? Then we were looking around and that is
when we found a system to teach us how to market online. Also to earn
money in the meantime because we were running out of money at the
time. So it just kind of started from there and we realised that if we could
learn the skill of marketing then we could really pay ourselves for life. We
could sell anything and it was one of those skill sets that we knew we could
continue to live this lifestyle afterwards. So we really got into it and got our
hands dirty. Just took a massive action. We really didn’t know what we
were doing, just kept taking action and making money. It was this really
cool thing. We were coming from working jobs and then seeing that rst
email commission. It was $25 but it was the most exciting thing in the
world because it became real. From there we were just hooked and that is
how it evolved into this. Now it is really a passion, it is developed into this
amazing passion.
7:13 Romeo – With a $25 sale you’re like how can I do this again? How can
we do this like ve times and then 10 times more? 100 times more, 1000
times more? That’s kind of like how we are wired that’s basically kind of like
our obsession.

7:37 Timothy – Was blogging the main focus? Was that the way that you
guys were able to broadcast and get out a signal sharing your perspective
from Costa Rica. Was that what was working in terms of the marketing
that you’re referring to?
7:49 Kat – Yeah we started blogging and we started initially spamming
Facebook. Posting our blog links everywhere. And I remember at the time
that even some of our friends and family blocked us. Because they’re like
your links are all over my newsfeed.
8:05 Kat – But funny enough we also started getting sales. We were just
sharing our passions. Also sharing our tness passions, because we were
really passionate about that. And just our experiences and our journey and
that’s how it all started.
8:19 Kat – Then we got into different kinds of marketing like paid marketing.
We really tried everything, but blogging and social media has really been
the thing that has worked the best.

8:32 Timothy – Typically I ask what changed once you implement a system.
In listening to you guys it’s almost as if the reverse has happened. It’s
almost like you guys had the courage to step o into your wildest
imaginations, landing in a foreign country. Then the system more so
supported that and backed up your change. Is that an accurate way to
understand it?
8:56 Kat – Yeah, before we started this whole journey I had read “Think and
Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. The quote that really stood out to me the
most in that was to burn all your ships and not have any other option. So
when we made that decision to go for it, we were realistic in the fact that if
we failed we will just come back get jobs and move on.
9:25 Kat – But if we could put ourselves in a position where we had to make
it work, you operate from a different level. It’s just a different level of, this is
it. We are going to make this work and we are not going to give this up.
We already had this lifestyle and we were just willing to do anything we
could. Taking massive action. I was terri ed of going on video. I used to get
stomach cramps for like two days just doing a short video or going on a
hang out but I just kept making myself do it. Because I knew that this was
possible and I knew this is something that we had.
9:57 Kat – So yeah it kind of became like reverse engineering our lifestyle
and not being willing to give it up. Because we had experienced it.
10:03 Timothy – Is that still there? You’ve done this a lot now and here we
are in a Google hang out again. Is there still that stage fright, is that still
present for you?

10:15 Kat – No, I’ve got over it. I have done so many videos. I go through
bursts where I’ve done video challenges. I kept talking on camera. I would
post Google hangouts myself doing interviews and I just kept doing it. I
kept doing it to the point where I just felt so comfortable I would forget I
was on camera anymore. And that’s just kind of what it’s come to. I have
probably done over 1000 videos easy over the past few years.
10:45 Kat – And it’s really true, practice makes perfect. And I also
discovered that it is something that I like. But I would never have known
that if I would not have done it. Where as Romeo, he is not so much on
camera. He is more behind the scenes. As a couple, doing this life change.
Picking up our whole life and just changing it and going into business
together, because we had never really worked together, that also has been
the most challenging thing in our relationship ever. Because here we were
brand-new to the business and not knowing anything. Not knowing also
how to t together as a couple in our roles in the business. Not knowing
what our skills would even be, because it was a discovery of skills. We
would ght a lot and it was hard because there was so much uncertainty
too. So we would kind of gravitate towards what we would resonate with
most. And it worked out that we complete each other in the business that
way. But it is because we were willing to experiment and we were willing to
kind of allow each other to explore. Romeo would do video in the
beginning but then decided it is not something he really enjoys. And so I
do, but it took a lot of that experimentation.
11:57 Romeo – These days I mostly do copy writing and stu like that. But I
think you only start identifying your true passions when you begin to do
something consistently, like over and over that’s when you will discover
what you really like. That’s what happened to me and I think it’s pretty cool
where things are headed.

12:17 Timothy – There are two questions, and I don’t know which one to
ask rst. There’s continue with what you’re doing, sharing advice that you
have for other couples. Let’s hold that thought and I’ll bring you back to it
in a minute. Romeo you just introduced me to the other one that’s sitting
there now. What’s next?
12:35 Timothy – You guys from the perspective of many of us, you’re there!
You are at the top of the mountain, you have accomplished it, you’re living
at the beach. And you are freely able to express who you are and enjoy the
freedom, exibility and the lifestyle. It’s clear in the video, you’re on the
beach, the wind is blowing. What’s next? Where do you go from there?

12:59 Kat – Well, actually we are kind of in the middle of something really
big. When we rst started as I shared we really wanted to sell our own
products. So it has kind of come full circle where we have really invested in
so much education and just literally anything we could get our hands on
we would buy. Any course, any mentor we could get close to, going to
events and anything like that it really was a stepping stone. So right now we
have launched our own program and created our own workshops. From
there we actually want to hold our own retreats and things like that. All this
experience and also learning how to work together, what we are good at
and what we enjoy.
13:49 Kat – Leaving a job, we didn’t want to come into a lifestyle where we
aren’t following our passion. (Romeo- Or like working a lot). Yeah, because
the whole point is to be excited about what we do and for me that was a
big thing. So for now it’s like we have so much excitement about this open
endedness of possibility in what we can create. And we have brought our
skill sets to the point where we can do that. We can take ideas and we have
the skills to make them into reality that we did not know how to do in the
beginning. So de nitely going down our own product route that is our
passion now.
14:29 Romeo – Kinda like bigger picture, I think when you have a dream and
you accomplish it you have bigger ones right? The dreams never stop. I
started sur ng last year. That has evolved into sur ng more and more and
eventually I probably will get into something else right? It’s like when you
have a dream it just gets more. Right now it is like that for us, bigger
picture. There are a lot of things and right now we are just taking it step-by-
step.

15:07 Timothy – So it’s not like when you wind up on the beach you’re done,
it just leads you to the next wave and the next wave and the next wave?
15:17 Kat – Yup!
15:19 Timothy – Very kool guys, and then from a systems perspective
maybe we can talk about this in the future again, I just want to introduce it
brie y here. Because there is something really unique in what you you’re
sharing. I hear that the system and the way that you guys have
implemented it, and as you said Kat, reverse engineered it, and now it’s
running successfully. Let’s say a system that has you guys living and
operating on the beach. I almost hear that you were able to develop your
own systems now that can carry it further, would that be a fair way to
describe it?
15:47 Kat – Yeah, The great thing about using a system, and we learned that
about going into product creation, because we didn’t know anything and
there are so many moving parts to creating a product. When we realised
we could sell other products, like using an a liate marketing model. Then
we knew that the skill sets we had to learn were vastly reduced. So we
could focus on maybe 2, 3, 5 things versus like 20 or 30 things. So being
able to learn about the front end marketing aspect of it, which I think is
probably the most important part of business. Because that’s driving tra c
and learning how to convert and learning also how to work with people,
team building and things like that. These are the skills that we really
focused on. Now going into product creation there are a lot more moving
parts and so it is also another learning curve. But because we know how to
leverage tra c and all of that which we learned from the system then we
know we can take these other skills and bring those into our life as well.

16:51 Kat – Thanks to the system it allowed us to accelerate this ability to
make money and not have to do everything from scratch, that’s the
amazing thing about it. That’s why we did it because we needed now-
money.
17:05 Timothy – Brilliant, I would love to come back together again when
we have more time and we can go more speci cally into that. It sounds like
you guys are just on the cutting edge of it for yourselves. Could we do that
again in the future? We could come back and carry that topic which we
touched on in terms of sharing your experience of implementing the
building of your own system is what it sounds like?
17:25 Kat – Yeah, for sure, we would be honoured, that’s awesome, thank
you Tim.
17:29 Timothy – Awesome, then in closing I would really like to get back to
that other question we touched on. You guys did o er some advice, and I
would just ask is there any further advice from either of you, especially for
couples building together implementing a system?
17:41 Romeo – I would say just relax into it. Kinda like the mantra version.
What would you say (Kat) ?

17:55 Kat – I would say allow each other to make mistakes. Because I think
individually we can be hard on ourselves. But in the couple setting it’s easy
to blame the other person or want the other person to do this or that. And
then it creates a lot of problems, and there’s no space to grow in that. So
allowing each other to learn, allowing each other to grow and understand
that we are both here in this new environment and we are doing the best
we can. And focus on each other’s wins. We try to focus as much as
possible on celebrating each other’s successes and how far we’ve come.
Has allowed us to work through those moments when things have been
tough. When we started there were times when we didn’t have food. The
funny thing is we would invest in our business over food sometimes.
18:47 Kat – We were so crazy for the lifestyle that sometimes we would just
eat fruit. There was two weeks once when it was just like crazy. In those
moments it can be toughest on the relationship, because there’s so much
pressure. So allowing each other to be OK and to not blame and not point
ngers has allowed us to move through. Our relationship is better now
than it has ever been. It’s funny because when we started we didn’t know
each other. Because we hadn’t spent so much time together, and now we
are together almost every day and it has brought our relationship to a
completely di erent level. And I think it is thanks to allowing each other to
grow.
19:33 Kat – So I would say, if you are doing this as a couple be easy on each
other. Because it is tough as an individual to go through change and to
learn, and as a couple even more. To have that support system to admit
that you don’t know what you are doing or that you have a lot of fear about
something. Or I screwed up. But to have that safe space to say that can
help monumentally with moving forward together. So that is something I
would definitely say to do.

20:05 Timothy – Sounds like you went to the right sandwich shop, and you
picked the right Romeo. I’ve really got to acknowledge both of you and it’s
just such an inspiring story. To hear the nervousness of getting to meet
someone behind the counter, right, in a work setting, or a mall as you
mentioned it. And then going to presenting yourself on video, online and
live-streams and hangouts and so on and so on. To where we get to see
and listen and ask you guys questions today on the beaches of Costa Rica. I
really look forward to touching in with you guys again because you are a
vivid example with a real track record now. What I refer to now as
together, we overcome. Uniting with each other in the mall and then doing
what you’ve done up to now and then clearly what you are now on the
cutting edge of. It’s really an exciting example that you shared with us
today thank you so much!
