Birds are warm-blooded like mammals but lay eggs like reptiles. They have feathers and wings which allow most to fly. There are over 9,000 bird species worldwide with diverse shapes, sizes, colors, and behaviors. Each year, 3,000 to 4,000 Bald Eagles gather along Alaska's Chilkat River to feed on salmon, helping the population recover from past threats. Adelie Penguins also return yearly to dense colonies, where parents take turns caring for eggs and young at pebble-ringed nests until the young can gather in groups.
