A Day in the Life
A Children's Poem by Luke Slisz
If you can venture silence and fnd comfort in oneself,
Bear the eerie darkness when the world is much asleep,
Find richness ev'ryday, for you cannot care for wealth,
Then you shall conjure tales where meanings journey deep.
If you can paint a melody and feel its rhythmic tone,
Craft your words with colour and speak it through your hand.
If you can honour ways that differ from your own,
Then you shall craft a story in which all may understand.
If you can share your thoughts and give rise to such debate
In which you face rebuke and become a guiding light.
If you can persevere when others aggravate,
Not only would you dream, but you would also write.
So hold your dreams at heart, keep the passion burning.
The world is soon to change, you'll be forever learning.
In dedication to poet Rudyard Kipling.
