German interior minister Ralf Jaeger said police in Germany will need to adjust their tactics following mass attacks on women in Cologne on New Year's Eve. Over 100 women reported being sexually assaulted or robbed by groups of men described as being of Arab or North African appearance. Jaeger also warned that anti-immigrant groups were trying to exploit the attacks to stir up hatred against refugees.

POLICE in Germany will
have to rethink their
tactics following attacks
on women in Cologne on
New Year’s Eve, a senior
official has said.
Interior minister Ralf
Jaeger said cops had to
“adjust” to the fact that
groups of men had
attacked women en masse.
Three suspects have
been identified but no
arrests had been made.
Scores of women say
they were robbed or sex-
ually assaulted by men,
reportedly of Arab or
North African appearance.
Mr Jaeger also warned
that anti-immigrant
groups were trying to use
the attacks to stir up
hatred against refugees.

TOURETTE’S LAD TAKES OFFTOURETTE’S LAD TAKES OFF
AN Irish teen who suffers such severe Tourette’s he
can’t go near young relatives due to his constant
swearing has gone viral with a video of him on a
plane shouting ‘BOMB!’
Lewis Nickell, 17, was only diagnosed with the condition
last April but it has already become so bad he has had to
skip family events and birthdays of nieces and nephews.
By LUCY-ANNABELLE NEWMAN
However, instead of letting it
get him down, the Belfast youth
makes videos charting his life
with the ailment — to educate,
and amuse, others.
One of his most recent flicks,
viewed more than 74,000 times on
Facebook, showed Lewis and his
brother Terry flying to Leeds on
December 28 to visit family.
Lewis’s Tourette’s flares up badly
and he’s seen shouting “I’m a ter-
rorist” multiple times in the airport
and on the passenger jet.
And he also yells: “There’s a
bomb on the plane!”
Lewis said: “Going to the airport
is one of the trickiest things some-
one with Tourette’s or suffering from
tics can do, for obvious reasons.
“People had been asking me for
ages to make a video of this. When
I had a flight booked to see family,
I thought it was perfect timing.
“My brother told the staff why we
were filming and that I had
Tourette’s and they treated me like
any other passenger.
“Most people realised I’d a condi-
tion but there was a point where I
shouted ‘Bomb!’ and saw a woman
look at me — she was mortified.
“There were a few people looking
very worried, especially when I
found myself shouting that I was a
terrorist, but the staff remained
calm and carried on so I think that
made people relax.
“It’s all real and shows what any-
one with my condition would go
through, but I don’t do it for sym-
pathy, I don’t want people feeling
sorry for me.” Tourette’s is a neuro-
logical disorder characterised by
involuntary movements or noises
known as tics, often including
obscenities.
It’s not just airports and planes
that prove a problem for Lewis —
living in Northern Ireland can make
things awkward for him too.
He explained: “The condition
reacts to the environment I am in,
so when I walk outside of my house
in a very protestant area and see
British flags, I find myself shouting
things like ‘f***ing huns’.
‘I’d got to the point I
was scared to go out’
“But then when I’m in a Catholic
area it will change to ‘f***ing
Catholics’.
“I don’t like offending people and
I know that shouting things like
this is very offensive, particularly
where I live.
“This is one of the reasons I
began making the videos. I’d got to
the point where I was too scared to
go out and couldn’t even go to the
shops for fear of what I’d shout.
“I thought that if the videos got
shared around the area then people
would know me, then understand
it’s just my Tourette’s . . .
“(But) whenever I have to walk
past a group of pretty girls, my tics
are usually along the lines of ‘nice
arse’ or ‘you’re well fit’ — which is
still very embarrassing!”
