Could We Cure Disease With A Cell…..Not A Pill?
Posted by Lucie Flowers on Oct 6th, 2015
Current medical treatment boils down to six words: Have disease, take pill, kill something. But
physician Siddhartha Mukherjee points to a future of medicine that will transform the way we heal.
This year we witness the 100th year anniversary of the introduction of antibiotics to the medical
world.
Obviously at the time this was transformational for the treatment of many ailments.
However, today there is a general consensus that we are rapidly becoming ‘immune’ to these
pharmaceutical drugs.
Physicians have attempted to produce treatments derived from antibiotics for chronic diseases such as heart
disease, diabetes and heart disease…..there is still no pill….
…..and we have a long way to go, as mentioned in the video, there are approximately 1 million possible reactions
within the human body than can be labelled an illness or disease…..only 250 of these reactions are currently
treatable with modern medicine.
2. Siddhartha Mukherjee is a scientist with an impressive history in medical research. His studies have led him to
believe that it is time for a new approach to treatment of disease. I won’t say too much here, you can watch the
video.
However, I will outline some basic points.
Let’s take the example of cancer treatment.
From 1950 to 2000 doctors attempted to kill the cells with chemotherapy and similar approaches, not always
successfully.
Thinking changed from around 2000 when research began into whether there may be an answer in the body’s
own immune system.
And from this year, 2015…..it has been suggested that perhaps a change of environment could also be
beneficial.
Does that sound familiar? Have we not all been hearing that our environment can affect our health a lot recently?
I believe that this also includes our emotions and our general mindset.
It is common knowledge that in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders the usual approach was to give
the patient pills in an attempt to ‘switch off’ the hormones or chemicals believed to be the cause….therefore
simply masking the problem. It has now been agreed that talk therapy coupled with medication is far more
effective than drugs alone.
I think you will find what this fabulous man has to say extremely interesting.
Very interesting!
Could medicine be a cell, not a pill?
Could a treatment be found in creating an organ outside of the body?
Could the answer be in the environment?
I believe so, and that this is where we are heading.
In the meantime, we can do our own bit too.
Taking care of our bodies with a healthy diet, good regular exercise and by working on our mindset.
I hope you found this post as fascinating as I did.
