Caffeinated Press Aims To Be West Michigan’s
Connoisseur of Book Publishing
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Since its launch in 2014, Caffeinated Press has aimed to become West
Michigan’s premiere publishing company. It is an independent publisher focused on finding and
publishing talented writers and artists from the West Michigan area specifically.
Unlike large publishing organizations, Caffeinated Press values the quality of literature well
above the profit gained from publishing. Often larger publishers focus on a tiny pool of well-
connected and commercially successful authors, and neglect entire categories of other authors.
“Our primary focus is West Michigan talent, so we provide opportunities to be published which
might otherwise be difficult to achieve in the larger markets, or with larger publishers,” says
John Winkelman, Chief Operating Officer of Caffeinated Press.
Caffeinated Press’s mission is “to publish works of literary merit by writers who are connected
to West Michigan”. The company hopes to combat the new-aged idea that writing is a
commodity to be regulated and packaged for resale. Instead, the company puts emphasis on the
idea that writing is a form of art that should be celebrated.
Caffeinated Press positions themselves as the coffee house of publishers, offering a large variety
of products and services. The company provides editing, marketing and financial advice and
offers seminars on the business of being published. It also publishes literature that falls within an
assortment of different genres, including poetry, fictional, non-fictional, journals, and so on.
Caffeinated Press provides the opportunity for any type of writer to bring their story to life.
“We do not focus on any specific writing genre. So far we have published an anthology of genre
and non-genre fiction, a mainstream young adult novel, a post-apocalyptic novel, a book of
poetry, and two issues of a literary journal,” says John Winkelman, Chief Operating Officer of
Caffeinated Press.
Caffeinated Press’s geographic emphasis allows for growth in the literary culture of West
Michigan. The company is just steps away from establishing West Michigan as a recognized
demographic for well-executed works of literature.
