1. Thank you!
Dear Elizabeth,
Thank you for speaking out for journalist Mohamed Fahmy.
If you would like to take another step, please consider writing a
letter to protect hundreds of Egyptians who have been sentenced to be
executed, in one of the harshest verdicts Amnesty has recently
documented anywhere in the world.
This news demonstrates how arbitrary and selective Egypt’s criminal
justice system has become. The courts are displaying complete contempt
for the most basic principles of a fair trial. Verdicts are being
delivered by judges who have neither reviewed evidence nor allowed the
defence to cross-examine witnesses. Lawyers and defendants aren’t even
allowed into the court room. Right now Egypt’s judiciary is at risk
of becoming just another part of the authorities’ repressive
machinery.
Write a letter, urging Egyptian authorities to:
overturn the 528 death sentences handed down on 24 March and to order
retrials that rigorously adhere to international standards for fair
trial without recourse to the death penalty.
commute all confirmed death sentences, and to establish a moratorium
on executions, as a first step towards abolition.

International protect Individuals at Risk, like Mohamed Fahmy, and to
help us overturn the mass death sentence and insist on fair retrials
for the 683 people sentenced to death.
Sincerely,
Alex Neve, Secretary General
