3. Genre Conventions
Setting: The setting place an important role as it can help the audience relate to the location which
engages them with the film more. Also it can help the audience clearly see the genre of the film.
Camerawork/ shots: The camerawork is normally naturalistic as this helps the audience feel that
they are part of the film. Also it is filmed in a way to show that no one is more superior then anyone else,
unless necessary.
Sound: Sound can help create humour and emphasis humour when it occurs. It is important to be able to
hear clearly and understand the diegetic sound but its also important to use non-diegetic sound. This creates
humour and can appeal to the audience to dramatize certain events.
Lighting: Lighting is generally quite bright to convey happiness and laugher towards the audience. It also
creates a ‘safe’ environment and easily allows the audience to relate to things that happen during certain
times of the say.
Props: Props are essential to comedy as they are very heavily recognised within the comedy genre. Props
create humour and emphasis towards situations and characters and it is a key ingredient to ‘slapstick’
comedy.
Character types: The characteristic and personality of characters within a comedy contribute to the
success of the film. This is because the audience need to engage and relate or develop a view of some sort
towards the characters.

5. Target Audience
My target audience is males aged from 25-40
year olds. This is because I feel as if the film
would suit them as they grew up in the time of
classic comedy would love to see that type of
comedy return. They would most likely be
around the B/ C1 on the ABC1 media audience
class scale. This is because the characters
could more easily be related to them.
They aren’t necessarily regular cinema-goers
but do love a good film. They would typically
enjoy comedy genre most.
