Service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSBs) are businesses that are majority owned and controlled by veterans with a service-connected disability. SDVOSBs benefit from preferential treatment in government contracts, as the government aims to award at least 3% of prime contracts annually to these businesses. To qualify as an SDVOSB, the veteran must exercise at least 51% control of the business and work full-time, and regulations prevent non-veteran owners from having authority over major decisions. Both SDVOSBs and other contractors can challenge awards made to opposing businesses.
