2. BATIK
• Batik (word of batik) originated from javanese
language “amba” and “titik” it mean write in
the cloth
• The word of batik refers to the cloth with a
pattern generated by the material “malam /
wax” that is applied onto the cloth to resist
the entry of dye.
3. “Batik Luwes-luwes” Home Industry
• Address of company:
– Jl Rotowijayan no. 21 Yogyakarta
• Luwes-luwes established in 1960 by Mr. Atmo
Sumarto.
• Now the owner is Indri Herwahyuni, she is
granddaughter of Mr. Atmo Sumarto
• In Batik Luwes-luwes there are two types of
batik production, the types are “batik cap”
and “batik tulis”

• Raw material :
– Malam ( mixed by Gondorukem/pine sap; resin
sap; parafin; and cooking oil)
5. TOOL AND EQUIPMENT
– Canting or stamp
– Pan and stove
– Mori cloth
– Dye ( coloured )

• Consignment with a partner at Surabaya

• Waste of batik making process:
– Malam recycle and on sale
– Water flowed at the special sewer to sewage
treatment plants
16. Problem
• The problem of Luwes-luwes Home Industry is
regeneration ( difficult to find young who
want to be batik workers)
17. Conclusion
• Luwes-luwes home industry is applied enough
in a system.
• There are also conducts short courses for
interest people
• However very less attention for waste
treatment, particularly for wastewater
