The document discusses God's open-door policy of being available to all people at any time. It describes how Jesus welcomed everyone during his ministry on Earth, showing God's desire for a relationship with every person. God is patient and does not want anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. As believers in Jesus Christ, we have access to God through faith and prayer, which allows us to experience the exceptional new life he has planned for us. If we make mistakes, God's open door is still there to offer forgiveness.
1. The Blessing of Open Doors
Companies and organizations with open-door policies are
generally viewed as open and transparent. One of the
by-products of an open-door policy is the development
and nurturing of an environment of cooperation and re-
spect between employees at all levels, from entry-level to
senior management. When someone in a management
position is known for an open-door policy, employees feel
welcomed and valued.
The same can be said of personal relationships. When you have an
“open door” relationship with someone, you know that you can gain
access to that person whenever you need him or her, no matter the
time of day or night. That is a wonderful relationship to have.
Jesus modeled an open-door policy during his earthly ministry. He
made himself available to anyone who needed him. He even sought
out people and invited them to spend time with him and to follow
him. Imagine that – one of the most renowned rabbis in Israel being
open to spending time with anyone!
Most rabbis of the time had a close following with a limited number
of handpicked disciples. Jesus did have a core group with whom he
spent more time, but he welcomed everyone to follow him.
Jesus’ “open-door policy,” which is also extended to us, gives insight
into the heart of God. He wants to have a relationship with each and
every one of us and he is willing to wait for us to come to him. Not
only is God holy, righteous, just and loving, he is also patient. As Peter
wrote, The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand
slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish,
but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
God’s open-door policy is not just for new believers. Every believer
in Jesus Christ has the same access. Paul wrote, In him and through
faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
(Ephesians 3:12)
When you avail yourself of God’s offer and listen to him instead of
just talking to him, you begin to discover the exceptional life he has
planned for you. You gain a new perspective. It’s as if you are seeing
life through new eyes. Paul put it this way in his second letter to the
believers in Corinth: So from now on we regard no one from a worldly
point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so
no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:
The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:16-17)
The new life that God wants to give you is exciting. With your new life
in God, you may find yourself looking at things and people differently
and acting differently. You will also find yourself battling old urges,
temptations and tendencies, wanting to experience that new life to
its fullest.
You may stumble along the way and make mistakes. But God’s open
door is still there. You can go to him any time, admit your mistakes
and ask his forgiveness, which he freely gives, as John reminded us. If
we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins
and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
God’s door is always open to you. You don’t even have to knock. You’re
welcome anytime.
