2. 2. The Webster's dictionary defines the word relationship as:“a continuing attachment or association between persons”
3. 3. We all have relationships. We can categorize all our relationships into three types: Good relationshipsBad relationshipsNo relationship
4. 4. Jesus in His teaching has given His followers a whole new meaning to the word relationshipwith our God
5. 5. Jesus provided us the possibility of a direct relationship with God as our Father
6. 6. Sin separates man from God.As sinners we cannot stand in the presence of God because His purity is absolute. We have to be cleansed of all Sin to be able to stand before God.Jesus gave us this possibility.
7. 7. Ephesians 3
11according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
8. 8. Ephesians 1
7In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace 8that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding
9. 9. Until Jesus' crucifixion only the High priest was allowed to directly communicate with GodThe high priest of the Temple was the only person allowed to go into the inner sanctum and was considered out of bounds for ordinary people The rest of the people were Not allowed to communicate with God. Only the high priest mediated between the people and God. The inner sanctum was separated with a curtain where the Chief Priest could mediate on behalf of the people and where he would carryout sacrifices and offer prayers to God
10. 10. Luke 2344It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last.
11. 11. When Jesus made the supreme sacrifice of His life three things happened;a. Jesus willingly offered Himself as the living sacrifice by taking all worldly Sins upon Himself.b. He negated the need for any more live sacrifices to Godc. The curtain separating the inner sanctum of the temple tore in two – Symbolically ending the separation of Man from God andestablished a direct relationship between man and God
12. 12. In His teachings Jesus brought in the concept of God as our FATHERMatthew 5:16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN.Jesus established a direct RELATIONSHIP between us and God
13. 13. Mark 11:25And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN may forgive you your sins.“ Luke 11:2He said to them, "When you pray, say: " 'FATHER, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. John 8:54Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. MY FATHER, WHOM YOU CLAIM AS YOUR GOD, is the one who glorifies me.
14. 14. For Christians developing an intimate relationship with Jesus is essential for our spiritual growth seeking Gods Kingdom. In order to develop an intimate relationship with anyone we need to get to know that person as the first step. Because you cannot develop an intimate relationship otherwise. Therefore the first step should be to read the Gospels, learn about Jesus' life, His teachings and benefit from the Faith, Strength and the Guidance that can be received from the LIVING WORD.
15. 15. By reading the living word we can come to derive a deeper understanding about Jesus. His teachings help us understand the requirements stated by Jesus for us to live a righteous life. We get to know what displeases God. The Living word will also enable us to develop an intimate relationship with Jesus. As the relationship develops between Jesus and ourselves, we would feel bad to displease Him and hence refrain from Sinning. By accepting Jesus as our Lord and through repentance He has given us the possibility to be cleansed of all Sin. This gives us a fresh start to our Journey seeking Gods Kingdom and the ability to stand before His holy presence.
