1. To whom it may concern
Lauren Paterson completed a short course in the Spring 2013 semester as a measure to ensure
compliance with the requirements of academic progress/entry into an Engineering Degree program;
specifically qualification for the first Year Engineering Mathematics subjects. From time to time
students enrol in a semester program like this to determine their suitability for further study in the
area.
All students undertake a Mathematics Readiness Survey (MRS), to determine if they are to be placed
in an N.S.W Higher School Certificate style course for revision purposes or whether they may
continue beyond this into the Mathematics Modelling 1 and 2 courses requisite to first year
requirements.
I am pleased to report Lauren placed near the top of her class and exceeded the minimum standard
required for further progress into the Mathematics Modelling subjects. Having successfully achieved
90% on her MRS Lauren is well placed to study University level mathematics should she so desire.
Lauren has sought appropriate advice and was careful to apply herself diligently and conscientiously
to her studies. The course covered all of the equivalent 2 unit syllabus requirements and more and
as such Lauren is well prepared for further study.
Attendance at the short course was three hours a week with equivalent face to face study of nine
hours a week in support. Given the short course ran for sixteen weeks students fulfilled the
requirements for workload and attendance readily.
I have no hesitation in recommending Lauren for a career path requiring the rigors of advanced
mathematics.
Please feel to contact me to discuss further Lauren’s situation as required.
Sincerely,
Jason Stanley
