Humbo Carbon Landscape: Its Contribution to Climate Change Mitigation and Livelihood Improvement of Inhabitants
1.
HUMBO CARBON LANDSCAPE: Its contribution to Climate Change
Mitigation and Livelihood Improvement of Inhabitants
Achievements in picture
The Beginning:
• Denuded mountains (nearly barren in terms of
vegetation cover)
• Biodiversity degradation
• High runoff and flood hazard at foot slopes
• Food insecurity
Solution
1. Regeneration of native forest through farmer managed
natural regeneration (FMNR)/traditional forest
establishment techniques.
2. Enhancement of GHG removals by sinks in the project
area.
3. Promotion of native vegetation and biodiversity
4. Reduction in soil erosion and flooding
5. Provision of income stream for communities through
sustainable harvesting of forest resources from carbon
trade & grass
