MY STORY
MIND BENDER
Till my fortieth birthday or may be sometime even
after that I used to get very emotional about small
matters. Would find find it difficult to let go of petty
insults, put downs etc. Invariably I would find myself
thinking about something which happened a week back
or a month back or even a few years back and get
myself all worked up.

Another problem was my short temper. I easily used to pick up fights, even while driving on the road or
snap at close ones on the slightest perceived mistake.
To be honest I never used mind programming for this. But somehow ever since I started doing
Meditation and using Energy Healing (which is again like meditation as one has to concentrate), I
automatically started changing. Now I am easily able to let go (I have found that sincerely forgiving
people is very powerful) and don’t remember the last time I got angry.
It’s only later that I learned that meditation reduces the amount of activity in Amygdala, our stress
causing brain part and we become calmer.
Now when sometimes people misbehave, I am able to empathise and understand that may be had I been
in their position, I may have behaved the same.
So is it meditation or as my wife says may be I am getting old :-)

India's spirit sector -- which includes whiskey,
brandy, rum and vodka -- is estimated to expand
25% to Rs 2.92 trillion by 2022 - Business Standard
report
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO),
about 30 per cent of India’s population consumes
alcohol regularly. The percentage of under-15 boys
who have not had alcohol has gone down from 44
per cent to 30 per cent and for girls it has
decreased from 50 per cent to 31 per cent, reveals
another study done by the Organisation for
Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
A friend shared that he organised a party at home
for his son’s classmates who’re at 11th standard.
On his son’s insistence he kept drinks at the party.
Later he found that not only many boys but also
many girls were so sloshed that they could not
walk straight. A few could not stand up.

And what do we see in movies. Generally youngsters out to have a good time are depicted
doing drinks and dance. In the accepted culture norms today the best way to celebrate today
is drinks, loud music and dance.
I am not saying that once in a while doing this is wrong but if we believe that we can’t have a
good time without them then surely there’s something wrong somewhere.
May be the mindset has become that in a group we cannot have a good time without drinks
and loud music and dance. Sometimes this forces non drinkers to start drinking because of
social pressure.
I remember few years after getting married, me and my wife celebrated a new year eve with
just the two of us having a great time in the house, just talking, good food, some dance,
some light music and yes a drink or two. Some of my friends could not believe that one can
celebrate without company.
May be I was always old fashioned but I think sitting with close ones in a relatively quiet
place or with light music, talking, having good food together with a drink or two or without
drinks, is a perfectly good way to celebrate. It’s the connection with other human beings
which is more important. Sharing the joy and sorrows of others and feeling nice about the
good things and bad about the others, supporting them, isn’t that the best way to have fun.
Once in a while we can also have loud music and other stuff
Coming back to rising alcoholism, what could be the reasons for this increase in addiction.
Could it be
Peer Pressure : The youngsters just want to blend in and prevent standing out. This peer
pressure sometimes initiates taking a drink or two, which may turn into addiction. An open
relationship with parents is very important here. The kids should not feel any apprehension
of being judged and should be able to confide such things in their parents. For this we just
need simply spend time with them and understand them.
Not liking one’s job : How do we feel when we finish doing something we like, even if we
have been at it for hours. Don’t we feel exhilarated? Or do we feel the intense desire to
drown ourselves in drinks? I guess it mostly former. Compare that to doing something we
dislike for a long duration. The mental exertion we put in demands a relief which more often
than not ends in alcohol. I know it may not be easy for everyone to just chuck their job and
start on their passion but it’s very important for us to at least guide our kids to follow their
passion. In the novel "Fountainhead" the antagonist keeps people unhappy, to make them
become emotional dependent on him and the best technique used by him is to propel people
towards choosing a career they dislike.
Lack of connection : People no longer have that emotional connection with others. How
many of these people, with whom we go out for partying will be there for us when we need
help? Or are these mostly fair weather friends? Can we trust the with how we think, what are
our deepest desires, what do we care about? If the answer is no then what’s the point of
going out with them? Better to have a meaningful relationship with few.
Psychological issues caused by the social structure & lifestyle : We need to check if the
idea of fun has changed from enjoying to impressing. Are we trying to enjoy or just trying to
impress others? In some cases when a person has shifted to a new city for the job and
doesn’t have friends, then it might be ok, but otherwise?
This might surprise many but as per research people who are at the top are Givers. Takers usually don’t
reach the top and languish somewhere in the middle.
My neighbour, a long distance runner for 15 years decided to start training people in our society for long
distance running without any charges. Just because he loves running and wanted to help people. He
enrolled 6 of us in the half marathon a few months down the line. He charted a training plan for us and
use to go with us for each day of running. All of us finished that half marathon and have been since
running regularly. He repeated this next year and had now 20 of us running. The group kept expanding,
we formed a local running group, organised a half marathon in our part of the city and now there are 100s
of people in the group.
Shortly thereafter he launched a running challenge just for a lark, invited us to join. Many of us joined. It
became so popular that he has now launched it internationally with 100s of thousands of people
participating.
Around 4 years back, I launched an Entreprenuer group on WhatsApp for my batch of MBA. Idea being
just to help each other. Initially there were 20 of us. Gradually we started adding alumni from other
batches . Now there are around 200 people in the group. And we just try helping each other. Though I had
no selfish motive in launching the group and just thought that it was a great idea. We could help each
other. But I have received great help from the group members. I don’t know if it’s because I am one of the
founders but whenever I call anyone and ask for any kind of help, everyone is more than willing to help.
These are just two stories to illustrate the power of Giving. Even if you may not have a selfish desire
when you decide to help others, it comes back multifold to you. Though it might take time and may come
back in unexpected ways. If nothing else then just getting the satisfaction seeing something you build
grow is unmatched.
Takers in the other hand keep languishing in their own juices and keep lamenting that why doesn’t anyone
help them. Better question would be what have they done to help others in a long lasting way.
Just go down, find a gap which lots of people are facing and just launch something in an unselfish way.
Keep at it if it initially doesn’t seem to be working. Keep trying making it better. If it’s actually done in a
selfless way, people who find value in it will help it grow.
However a precaution : People at the bottom are also Givers. So one has to be smart about it. Don’t let
Takers take you for a ride because you are a nice person. My motto is to help everyone the first time they
ask and then just check, do they reciprocate or at least do they help other people? If the answer is no
then I don’t spend more then 5 minutes in helping them the next time
WHO ENDS UP
SUCCESSFUL?
‘GIVERS’ OR
‘TAKERS’?
Simplicity : How about meeting your aunt in the city this weekend, who stays alone as her
kids are abroad? How about just having a simple meal at her place and just talking about the
time she spent with your parents and with you when you were small. I guarantee you’ll come
back feeling elated. Because you’ll get such good vibes from her and remembering the good
times will be therapeutic.

SCIENCE SECTION
We’ve already seen too many examples of the negative effects of bullying on
humans, but IKEA took it one step further when the retailer conducted an
experiment to show what can happen to a plant that’s been relentlessly bullied.
Bully A Plant, a niche experiment conducted at a school in the United Arab
Emirates leading up to Anti-Bullying Day on May 4, showed students how
destructive negative comments can be. The DIY furniture giant set up two
identical IKEA plants in the school, and for 30 days invited students to
compliment one plant and bully the other.
Although it’s not the most scientific of experiments — the company has admitted
as much — the plants were kept under identical controlled environments. They
each received the same amount of light, nutrition and water.
The students’ comments were fed through speakers rigged into each enclosure.
They were encouraged to record their words of praise, and to record their insults
or send them via social media. A recording device then transmitted the messages
to each plant.
After 30 days, the plant that received compliments was healthy and thriving,
while its insult-riddled counterpart was wilted and noticeably droopy.

Tips to achieve Growth Mindset
In this edition we’ll cover Low Energy Levels
If our energy levels go down early we start feeling demotivated to study. E.g. If Virat Kohli starts feeling tired, how
will he score runs. So it’s important to keep the energy levels high.
How to keep energy levels high :
Regular Exercise : We should do at least 20 minutes of rigorous exercise which could be brisk walking, running,
cycling or similar exercise ideally in open air in the morning. This will cleanse our lungs and will gradually increase
our energy levels so that we don’t get tired even after studying for a full day. Ideally we should exercise for around 45
minutes daily. Again like discipline we can start small and gradually build it up.
“I don’t have time” - don’t think like that. As your energy levels increase you’ll find that your ability to focus and
concentrate also start increasing and you’ll be able to finish chapters faster, thus needing less time to study.
Becoming Calmer :
"Earlier the thing was that I used to take things hard...the reaction was quick, now I don't let it go fast, so
that's one change in feel in myself"
Wake up fresh :
“ I feel fresh in the morning when I wake up now”
Start Exercise:
“I go for the morning walk now which I wasn't doing earlier"
Video link - https://youtu.be/7Wu_Suag144
Meditation and breathing exercises : Even 10-15 minutes of regular meditation and/or breathing exercises are very
powerful. This will improve your energy levels very fast.
Light diet : Eat more fruits/ fresh juices/ salads/ nuts & dry fruits etc. You may take a whole meal of fruits. E.g
breakfast of only fruits. Also for cooked meals try taking them as less spicy and less heavy as possible. Because
Fruits and less spicy cooked food are easier for body to digest. Resulting in high energy levels. You would have
noticed that after taking a heavy meal you start feeling hungry.
Good sleep : It’s very important to take proper sleep. When we sleep our body rejuvenates and recuperates. Production
of white blood cells, platelets etc is at it’s peak when we are sleeping. You would have noticed that babies sleep for
upto 18 hours in a day as they are growing so fast. In energy terms we get maximum energy from deep breathing and
good sleep. So it’s imperative to take proper sleep as per body requirements.
Spending time with friends : It’s important to relax with friends and enjoy ourselves if not daily then at least a couple
of times in the week. Laughing energises us and spending time with friends is a good way to do that.
Me time : Taking out some time in the week and spending on our hobby whether playing musical instrument, reading
a book or any such activity also energises us. Again if not daily then we should try doing it a few times in the week.

  • 1. VISMRITI 'To Unlearn' MY STORY MIND BENDER Till my fortieth birthday or may be sometime even after that I used to get very emotional about small matters. Would find find it difficult to let go of petty insults, put downs etc. Invariably I would find myself thinking about something which happened a week back or a month back or even a few years back and get myself all worked up. Can you draw a rectangle with three lines (Answer at the end) Monthly Newsletter Another problem was my short temper. I easily used to pick up fights, even while driving on the road or snap at close ones on the slightest perceived mistake. To be honest I never used mind programming for this. But somehow ever since I started doing Meditation and using Energy Healing (which is again like meditation as one has to concentrate), I automatically started changing. Now I am easily able to let go (I have found that sincerely forgiving people is very powerful) and don’t remember the last time I got angry. It’s only later that I learned that meditation reduces the amount of activity in Amygdala, our stress causing brain part and we become calmer. Now when sometimes people misbehave, I am able to empathise and understand that may be had I been in their position, I may have behaved the same. So is it meditation or as my wife says may be I am getting old :-) Apr 2021
  • 2. RISING ALCOHOL & SUBSTANCE ADDICTION Adian Corporation's Monthly Company Newsletter Some more statistics India's middle-class is drinking more and spending on premium alcohol India's spirit sector -- which includes whiskey, brandy, rum and vodka -- is estimated to expand 25% to Rs 2.92 trillion by 2022 - Business Standard report According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), about 30 per cent of India’s population consumes alcohol regularly. The percentage of under-15 boys who have not had alcohol has gone down from 44 per cent to 30 per cent and for girls it has decreased from 50 per cent to 31 per cent, reveals another study done by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). A friend shared that he organised a party at home for his son’s classmates who’re at 11th standard. On his son’s insistence he kept drinks at the party. Later he found that not only many boys but also many girls were so sloshed that they could not walk straight. A few could not stand up. • 3. And what do we see in movies. Generally youngsters out to have a good time are depicted doing drinks and dance. In the accepted culture norms today the best way to celebrate today is drinks, loud music and dance. I am not saying that once in a while doing this is wrong but if we believe that we can’t have a good time without them then surely there’s something wrong somewhere. May be the mindset has become that in a group we cannot have a good time without drinks and loud music and dance. Sometimes this forces non drinkers to start drinking because of social pressure. I remember few years after getting married, me and my wife celebrated a new year eve with just the two of us having a great time in the house, just talking, good food, some dance, some light music and yes a drink or two. Some of my friends could not believe that one can celebrate without company. May be I was always old fashioned but I think sitting with close ones in a relatively quiet place or with light music, talking, having good food together with a drink or two or without drinks, is a perfectly good way to celebrate. It’s the connection with other human beings which is more important. Sharing the joy and sorrows of others and feeling nice about the good things and bad about the others, supporting them, isn’t that the best way to have fun. Once in a while we can also have loud music and other stuff Coming back to rising alcoholism, what could be the reasons for this increase in addiction. Could it be Peer Pressure : The youngsters just want to blend in and prevent standing out. This peer pressure sometimes initiates taking a drink or two, which may turn into addiction. An open relationship with parents is very important here. The kids should not feel any apprehension of being judged and should be able to confide such things in their parents. For this we just need simply spend time with them and understand them. Not liking one’s job : How do we feel when we finish doing something we like, even if we have been at it for hours. Don’t we feel exhilarated? Or do we feel the intense desire to drown ourselves in drinks? I guess it mostly former. Compare that to doing something we dislike for a long duration. The mental exertion we put in demands a relief which more often than not ends in alcohol. I know it may not be easy for everyone to just chuck their job and start on their passion but it’s very important for us to at least guide our kids to follow their passion. In the novel "Fountainhead" the antagonist keeps people unhappy, to make them become emotional dependent on him and the best technique used by him is to propel people towards choosing a career they dislike. Lack of connection : People no longer have that emotional connection with others. How many of these people, with whom we go out for partying will be there for us when we need help? Or are these mostly fair weather friends? Can we trust the with how we think, what are our deepest desires, what do we care about? If the answer is no then what’s the point of going out with them? Better to have a meaningful relationship with few. Psychological issues caused by the social structure & lifestyle : We need to check if the idea of fun has changed from enjoying to impressing. Are we trying to enjoy or just trying to impress others? In some cases when a person has shifted to a new city for the job and doesn’t have friends, then it might be ok, but otherwise?
  • 4. This might surprise many but as per research people who are at the top are Givers. Takers usually don’t reach the top and languish somewhere in the middle. My neighbour, a long distance runner for 15 years decided to start training people in our society for long distance running without any charges. Just because he loves running and wanted to help people. He enrolled 6 of us in the half marathon a few months down the line. He charted a training plan for us and use to go with us for each day of running. All of us finished that half marathon and have been since running regularly. He repeated this next year and had now 20 of us running. The group kept expanding, we formed a local running group, organised a half marathon in our part of the city and now there are 100s of people in the group. Shortly thereafter he launched a running challenge just for a lark, invited us to join. Many of us joined. It became so popular that he has now launched it internationally with 100s of thousands of people participating. Around 4 years back, I launched an Entreprenuer group on WhatsApp for my batch of MBA. Idea being just to help each other. Initially there were 20 of us. Gradually we started adding alumni from other batches . Now there are around 200 people in the group. And we just try helping each other. Though I had no selfish motive in launching the group and just thought that it was a great idea. We could help each other. But I have received great help from the group members. I don’t know if it’s because I am one of the founders but whenever I call anyone and ask for any kind of help, everyone is more than willing to help. These are just two stories to illustrate the power of Giving. Even if you may not have a selfish desire when you decide to help others, it comes back multifold to you. Though it might take time and may come back in unexpected ways. If nothing else then just getting the satisfaction seeing something you build grow is unmatched. Takers in the other hand keep languishing in their own juices and keep lamenting that why doesn’t anyone help them. Better question would be what have they done to help others in a long lasting way. Just go down, find a gap which lots of people are facing and just launch something in an unselfish way. Keep at it if it initially doesn’t seem to be working. Keep trying making it better. If it’s actually done in a selfless way, people who find value in it will help it grow. However a precaution : People at the bottom are also Givers. So one has to be smart about it. Don’t let Takers take you for a ride because you are a nice person. My motto is to help everyone the first time they ask and then just check, do they reciprocate or at least do they help other people? If the answer is no then I don’t spend more then 5 minutes in helping them the next time WHO ENDS UP SUCCESSFUL? ‘GIVERS’ OR ‘TAKERS’? Simplicity : How about meeting your aunt in the city this weekend, who stays alone as her kids are abroad? How about just having a simple meal at her place and just talking about the time she spent with your parents and with you when you were small. I guarantee you’ll come back feeling elated. Because you’ll get such good vibes from her and remembering the good times will be therapeutic.
  • 5. A report in globalnews.ca This experiment by furniture brand IKYA shows that Plants respond to emotions SCIENCE SECTION We’ve already seen too many examples of the negative effects of bullying on humans, but IKEA took it one step further when the retailer conducted an experiment to show what can happen to a plant that’s been relentlessly bullied. Bully A Plant, a niche experiment conducted at a school in the United Arab Emirates leading up to Anti-Bullying Day on May 4, showed students how destructive negative comments can be. The DIY furniture giant set up two identical IKEA plants in the school, and for 30 days invited students to compliment one plant and bully the other. Although it’s not the most scientific of experiments — the company has admitted as much — the plants were kept under identical controlled environments. They each received the same amount of light, nutrition and water. The students’ comments were fed through speakers rigged into each enclosure. They were encouraged to record their words of praise, and to record their insults or send them via social media. A recording device then transmitted the messages to each plant. After 30 days, the plant that received compliments was healthy and thriving, while its insult-riddled counterpart was wilted and noticeably droopy. Testimonial - Vivek Gambhir, Head OEM Channel, Madhya Pradesh, Universal Sompo Waking up early “Morning habit of waking up early has improved a lot. I mean earlier I used to wake up at around 7.30 or 8...now I wake up at 5.30 or 6. It has improved a lot"
  • 6. Not setting goals Self Mastery Issues Low Energy Levels Low Self-Esteem - Peer Pressure, Parents pressure Anxiety - Fear of failure Feeling overwhelmed by the scale of a problem or a situation Lack of Self-Belief Bad Planning Demotivation There may be many factor which may cause demotivation. We need to work on each of these factors and close them Some of the common causes are Causes To keep ourselves motivated it’s important that we work on each of these factors. Student Section Tips to achieve Growth Mindset In this edition we’ll cover Low Energy Levels If our energy levels go down early we start feeling demotivated to study. E.g. If Virat Kohli starts feeling tired, how will he score runs. So it’s important to keep the energy levels high. How to keep energy levels high : Regular Exercise : We should do at least 20 minutes of rigorous exercise which could be brisk walking, running, cycling or similar exercise ideally in open air in the morning. This will cleanse our lungs and will gradually increase our energy levels so that we don’t get tired even after studying for a full day. Ideally we should exercise for around 45 minutes daily. Again like discipline we can start small and gradually build it up. “I don’t have time” - don’t think like that. As your energy levels increase you’ll find that your ability to focus and concentrate also start increasing and you’ll be able to finish chapters faster, thus needing less time to study. Becoming Calmer : "Earlier the thing was that I used to take things hard...the reaction was quick, now I don't let it go fast, so that's one change in feel in myself" Wake up fresh : “ I feel fresh in the morning when I wake up now” Start Exercise: “I go for the morning walk now which I wasn't doing earlier" Video link - https://youtu.be/7Wu_Suag144
  • 7. Meditation and breathing exercises : Even 10-15 minutes of regular meditation and/or breathing exercises are very powerful. This will improve your energy levels very fast. Light diet : Eat more fruits/ fresh juices/ salads/ nuts & dry fruits etc. You may take a whole meal of fruits. E.g breakfast of only fruits. Also for cooked meals try taking them as less spicy and less heavy as possible. Because Fruits and less spicy cooked food are easier for body to digest. Resulting in high energy levels. You would have noticed that after taking a heavy meal you start feeling hungry. Good sleep : It’s very important to take proper sleep. When we sleep our body rejuvenates and recuperates. Production of white blood cells, platelets etc is at it’s peak when we are sleeping. You would have noticed that babies sleep for upto 18 hours in a day as they are growing so fast. In energy terms we get maximum energy from deep breathing and good sleep. So it’s imperative to take proper sleep as per body requirements. Spending time with friends : It’s important to relax with friends and enjoy ourselves if not daily then at least a couple of times in the week. Laughing energises us and spending time with friends is a good way to do that. Me time : Taking out some time in the week and spending on our hobby whether playing musical instrument, reading a book or any such activity also energises us. Again if not daily then we should try doing it a few times in the week.
