Mecklenburg County, with a population of over 1 million, had the highest average of 81 fatal accidents per year. Wake County, with a population also over 1 million, had the second highest average of 67 fatal accidents annually. The county with the lowest average was Davidson County, with 27 fatal accidents per year and a population of around 164,000.
