Dear Human Resources,
I watch a fair amount of sports and sometimes when they interview someone, you will
hear the person say, “Ever since I was little, I knew I was going to play in the majors”. That
passion is how I have always felt about the science and why I graduated with a degree in
Biology. One of my most vivid memories when I was a kid took place during recess in 5th grade.
I remember finding an anthill, and for the entire period and several days after that, I just
watched the ants. I questioned what they were doing, why some were carrying things and
others were not, what was going on underground, and why did they always use the same
paths? Looking back on it, it felt like my first experiment. I knew that although they seemed
insignificant, there was a purpose for everything the ants did. And there were things going on I
couldn’t see but I wanted to know. I’ve carried that same inquisitiveness and passion
throughout my life.
I know that what I have learned in college and my job experiences has prepared me for
a career that will further your companies goals. My coursework has been very broad, from
conservation biology to neuroscience to aquaculture. I view this as beneficial because it allows
me to draw on various disciplines when applying myself to a new job or project. In class I have
had to design and build my own aquaculture system, set up an inventory and monitoring
project for amphibian species, and write formal scientific papers for various microbiology
experiments. I enjoy working on group projects and being part of a team, but I also am
confident working alone to accomplish goals. I have taken many workshops to get real world
experience and supplement my classroom knowledge. Since going back to school to finish my
degree, I have improved my GPA tremendously during these last two semesters. I was on the
Dean’s List this past spring, boasting my best GPA in college and this summer I am on track to
do the same thing. I am driven and hungry to succeed along my career path in ways which will
benefit your company.
In closing, I want to thank you for looking over my resume and giving me an opportunity
to speak for myself. I just want to end with this. A lot of people are in the same boat as I am:
finishing college and preparing for the future. And that can be scary for a lot of people because
of the unknowns. But I’m not scared, I’m excited. Excited to start this new path of my life and
find a career that allows the business and I to succeed. This is not something that I want to do,
but something that I am going to do. The next step is yours.
Sincerely,
Kyle Burwitz
