1. What can be expected at the new
Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino?
Guests can look forward to nothing but
rich history, the traces of legendary
performers and above all – a place
where everyone will be treated like a
high roller. “We may not be the newest
resort in Las Vegas,” David Siegel said,
“but we will be the friendliest.”
A Rich History
The Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino
originally opened as the International
Hotel on July 2, 1969 and, at the time,
was the largest hotel and casino in the
world. It had 1,568 rooms, a 30,000-
square-foot casino and 50,000 square
feet of meeting space. With 350,000
gallons of water in the pool, the pool
was considered the largest body of
water in southern Nevada. The hotel was
known as the Las Vegas Hilton from
March of 1971 through 2012. When
Westgate purchased the hotel in 2014, it
became, and will remain as, the
Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.
Siegel’s love for Las Vegas and family ties
to the city make the purchase of the
Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino a
defining moment in his career. “My
father and my mother came to Las Vegas
about twice a month for over 50 years,”
said Siegel. The hotel will honor Siegel’s
father, Sid, by the opening of a new
coffee shop: Sid’s Café. His parents were
married in the city and were featured in a
full page spread in the Las Vegas Sun
when they celebrated their 50th
anniversary in Vegas. “Bill Briare, the
mayor at the time, gave them the key to
the city,” says Siegel about his parents. It’s
fitting that the Siegels were given the key
to the city, as their son now plans to make
his newest hotel the home of
entertainment and luxury in Las Vegas.
Remembering when Siegel first stayed in
the hotel in 1970 with his parents he says,
“Ironically, I couldn’t afford it then, but
now almost 45 years later I’ve bought the
hotel.” History has come full circle.
The Handprint of Rock Stars
When Siegel first stayed in the hotel in
1970 it was in its full glory. Barbra
Streisand performed an exclusive black
tie event in the showroom for the grand
opening of the hotel on July 2, 1969. The
hotel will always be remembered for its
iconic performers and entertainment.
From the opening of the hotel in 1969,
the hotel became home to superstars
like Liberace, Barry Manilow, Wayne
Newton and none other than The King
himself – Elvis Presley.
The King debuted his first performance
at the hotel on July 31, 1969. Elvis Presley
made the hotel famous during his reign
in the late 60s and early 70s. One in two
people that visited Las Vegas during the
months he performed saw Elvis sing at
the hotel. More people saw Elvis perform
at the hotel than anywhere else in the
world, making the resort a historic
landmark. He performed 837 consecutive
sold-out shows and his music touched
over 2.5 million people during the seven
years he performed there.
In the Lobby of the resort, a life-size
bronze statue of Elvis Presley pays
tribute to The King. Elvis and his wife
Pricilla stayed at the hotel so frequently
that they called the property home and
enjoyed all the luxurious amenities. They
frequently threw parties in their room.
Elvis was known for inviting guests to his
suite after concerts. Friends and fans
would hang out with Elvis while he sang
for them in a private setting. Elvis
Presley’s handprint has been forever
imprinted on the hotel and the hotel
made Elvis synonymous with Las Vegas.
As a tribute to the King, Trent Carlini
performs nightly shows in the Shimmer
Cabaret. “The King” is a tribute
performance that pays sincere homage
to the life of Elvis. Carlini is the winner of
ABC’s “The Next Big Thing” and is
nationally recognized as the best Elvis
tribute artist in Las Vegas. Journey
through Elvis’ career and enjoy over 25
hits like “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With
You” and “Blue Suede Shoes”. It’s truly a
remarkable and moving performance
that you won’t want to miss!
After Elvis’ reign, the showroom hosted
an amazing and diverse array of
headliners for decades. Stars included:
Bill Cosby, Tom Jones, Liberace, Tony
Bennett, Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell,
Redd Foxx, Paul Anka, Earth Wind & Fire
and Barry Manilow. Thanks to these
