KERN COUNTY FARM BUREAU SELECTS MICHAEL R. METTLER SCHOLARSHIP
RECIPIENTS
The Kern County Farm Bureau is pleased to once again sponsor the Michael R. Mettler Memorial
Scholarship. The funds are available to high school seniors or college students in the first three years of
study in an agriculture-related degree programs. The recipients will receive $500 each year that they are
in school, up to four years.
The Kern County Farm Bureau (KCFB) was organized in 1914 and is affiliated with the California and
American Farm Bureau Federations and seeks to surface, analyze and solve the problems of farmers and
ranchers. It is the unified voice of Kern County’s farming community and has created this scholarship to
promote, protect, and strengthen Kern County’s agricultural interests.
This year’s MRM scholarship recipients are Cameron Ford, Mallory Harrison and Micaela Palmer, all
of Bakersfield.
Ford is currently a sophomore at California State University, Fresno, majoring in Agriculture Education.
Here is a list of a few of Ford’s many achievements: active member in Frontier High School FFA all
four years of high school, Parliamentary Procedure State Finalist Chairman, Prepared Public Speaking
Regional Finalist, Frontier FFA Chapter Top Boy (2014), Christmas Caroling for Canned Goods
Committee Chair, Greenland FFA Degree Recipient, South Valley Section FFA Sectional Officer
Leadership Conference, California FFA Sacramento Leadership Experience, National FFA Convention
California Delegation, and State FFA Convention Sub-Committee. By the end of Ford’s four years at
Cal State Fresno he will receive his Bachelors of Science degree. He has two very different career paths,
the first is to be an agriculture lobbyist and the second to be an agricultural education teacher.
Harrison is currently a junior at California State University, Fresno, majoring in Agriculture Education
with an emphasis in Plant Science. Although as a young girl she had no agricultural background her
passion grew. Through the FFA organization and Agricultural Education she has learned her greatest
skill is public speaking and plans to use it to her advantage. Harrison plans to create a positive influence
for agriculture in our state and help encourage the next generation of agricultural leaders once she
graduates from Cal State Fresno in 2017.
Palmer is currently a senior at Frontier High School where she is an active member of the Frontier High
School FFA Chapter. She has gained agriculture experience by raising market livestock for the Kern
County Fair and being an active member of FFA. Palmer will be attending college at California State
University, Fresno where she will be majoring in Agriculture Education.
These scholarship recipients will be awarded their scholarships at the 2015 Kern Agriculture
Scholarship Awards Banquet beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11 at the Kern Ag Pavilion,
located at 3300 East Belle Terrace Avenue in Bakersfield.
