Church, where he works as executive pastor. Over his
tenure in ministry, Kirk McCormick has traveled to more
than 30 nations, including Namibia, where he supported
schools and orphaned children.
According to data gathered by the Namibia Statistics
Agency in 2015, the country hosts more than 153,000
vulnerable and orphaned children. The data suggests
that the number of such children is on the rise, growing
by more than 3,000 in the period between 2011 and
2014. These children are concentrated in Namibia’s
northern region.

3. Child Poverty
 In light of these numbers and the county’s child
poverty rate of 34 percent, Namibia offers child
welfare grants to about 145,000 youths, most of
whom have been orphaned. One suggestion, put
forth by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on
Extreme Poverty and Human Rights, to help Namibia
address its child poverty crisis focuses on expanding
these grants beyond orphans to all vulnerable
children.
Such a massive expansion of the country’s
government welfare system would likely reduce the
child poverty rate by 25 percent.
