Kirk Hallam has been a highly successful business litigator for more than thirty years,
specializing in trademark, trade dress, copyright and patent disputes, as well as rights of
publicity, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, real property and partnership
disputes. Kirk received his law degree from the Harvard Law School in 1981 and his
undergraduate degree from UCLA (summa cum laude) in 1978.
After clerking for U.S. District Court Judge Judith Keep in San Diego, CA, then receiving
the prestigious Coro Fellowship Award to study government and public policy for a year,
Kirk became an associate then partner in the Beverly Hills law firm of Rosenfeld, Meyer &
Susman. While at Rosenfeld (1983-98), Kirk represented clients such as Universal Studios,
Nike, Lisa Frank, Inc., studio executive and producer Alan Ladd, director/producer Sean
Hepburn Ferrer, the Audrey Hepburn Estate, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, Jimi
Hendrix music producer Alan Douglas, and Jimi Hendrix Publishing Co, Bella Godiva.
In 1998, Kirk left Rosenfeld to pursue business opportunities with clients in the
entertainment field, while continuing to handle select litigation matters. Having returned
to the full-time practice of law in 2010, Kirk has tried and won six consecutive trademark,
copyright, patent and computer fraud and data theft cases, involving, among other things,
copyrights in a Jimi Hendrix documentary film, trademark rights in Rin Tin Tin, and
patent rights in a revolutionary nontoxic pesticide, and has successfully litigated a
Federal Court case involving trademarks and copyrights in the Superman Shield. Kirk is
now litigating copyright, trademark and patent ownership cases in, inter alia, the Central
District of California, the District of Arizona and the California Court of Appeals.
For the past twenty years, Kirk also has been a Board Member of the Audrey Hepburn
Children’s Fund, a nonprofit organization providing financial assistance for abused and
impoverished children. He is an avid golfer and tennis player and resides with his family
in Brentwood, California.

DC Comics v. Mad Engine, Inc. (2016):
Obtained dismissal of Trademark and Copyright claims in Central District of
California case involving trademarks and copyrights in the Superman Shield.
Kleven v. Hereford re Rin Tin Tin (2015):
Obtained judgment following court trial in the Central District of California ,
awarding clients all federal trademark rights in Rin Rin Tin.
Cal Agri v. Steckler (2014):
Following 4 week trial, won $5 million judgment and ownership of patents to
revolutionary nontoxic pesticidal products .
In Re Gerald Harper (2013):
Won $671,000 Judgment for theft of corporate data after trial in California
Superior Court, including reimbursemen t of all attorneys' fees and costs.
Douglas v. Experience Hendrix (2012):
Won Seattle Federal Court trial awarding client all copyrights in Jimi Hendrix
documentary film, along with reimbursemen t of all attorneys' fees and costs.
Brown v. Lisa Frank, Inc. (2012):
Won dispute re ownership of patents in Arizona Superior Court, aff'd by
Arizona Court of Appeals and Arizona Supreme Court.
Audrey Hepburn Estate v. Carroll Publishing :
Obtained substantial monetary payment and injunction in Lanham Act
trademark and false endorsement case in the Southern District of New York.
Dove Audio v. RMS, 47 Cal. App. 4th 777 :
Obtained dismissal of $20 million defamation action involvin g Estate of
Audrey Hepburn, and full reimbursement of all attorneys' fees and costs.
Experience Hendrix v. Alan Douglas:
Prevailed for Jimi Hendrix music producer, defeating motion for preliminary
injunction in the Federal Court for the Western District of Washington, in case
involving ownership of all Jimi Hendrix music rights and rights of publicity.
Lisa Frank, Inc. v. Mega Toys, 79 F.3d. 1153:
Obtained preliminary injunction in federal trademark case, aff'd by Ninth Circuit.
Brian Wilson v. Von Gentile, 8 Cal. App. 4th 759:
Won Malibu Beach oceanfront property for former leader of the Beach Boys .
Unique Industries, Inc. v. Lisa Frank, Inc., 1994 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 13590:
Won dismissal of Trademark and Copyright case in Arizona Federal Court.
Levin and Lipton v. Phillip Knight:
Obtained directed verdict for Founder and Chairman of Nike in complex contract
and securities litigation involving ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Lisa Frank, Inc. v. Impact, 799 F. Supp. 980:
Won permanent injunction and substantial monetary damages in trade dress
and copyright infringement case in Arizona District Court, establishing legal
precedent that color patterns may constitute protectable trade dress.
