The firm successfully defended San Francisco based cable television channel, Current
TV, in a preliminary injunction proceeding where the plaintiff was seeking to enjoin the launch
of the channel under the mark “Current”. Current Communications Group LLC v. Current
Media LLC, 2005 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 40733 (S.D. Ohio 2005). We obtained a dismissal in a
copyright and design patent infringement suit seeking $2.9 Billion against our clients Target
Corporation, Iconix, Phillips Van-Heusen, Sean John Clothing, Columbia Sportswear and Bon
Ton Stores. Walker v. Strauss, 2009 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 80630. We obtained a TRO and product
recall of a knock-off of Britney Spears perfume for New York-based fragrance and cosmetics
company, Elizabeth Arden in Elizabeth Arden v. Belcam, 2005 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 40734 (S.D.
Ohio 2005). Dreitler True successfully obtained summary judgment for a small Florida
company, IntelliJet International, Inc. against a trademark infringement suit by NetJets, Inc.
NetJets Inc. v. Intellijet Group, LLC, Case No. 2:12-cv-00059 (SD Ohio 2015).
Dreitler True obtained dismissals in trademark infringement cases on behalf of
defendants as diverse as “C Magazine” (a California company); Red Wing Shoe Company
(Minnesota); Coors Brewing Company (Colorado); Car-Freshner Corporation (a New York
company), K-Mart and Apple Computer. He has obtained dismissals/transfers of cases filed in
Ohio against out of state companies, on the grounds of lack of personal jurisdiction when small
companies were sued in Ohio in William R. Hague, Inc., v. Puretech Water Systems, Inc., 2010
U.S. Dist. LEXIS 48901; 94 USPQ2D (BNA) 1247 (2010) and Rothschild Berry Farm v.
Serendipity Group LLC, 84 F. Supp. 2d 904 (S.D. Ohio 1999).
Joe Dreitler has more than 30 years of experience in trademark, trade dress, unfair
competition, copyright and domain name litigation in the federal courts and before the
Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (“TTAB”). He also has extensive experience in global
trademark searching, clearance, brand development, prosecution and portfolio management,
internet issues, advertising review and client counseling for both small and large companies.
World Trademark Review named Joe one of “the expert’s experts” – one of the 20 leading
trademark experts in the United States. Prior to establishing Dreitler True, LLC, Joe was at
partner at Jones Day and led the intellectual property practice in that firm’s Columbus office. Joe
2. previously was in house trademark and copyright counsel at The Procter & Gamble Company in
Cincinnati and Anheuser-Busch, St. Louis. He began his career as trademark and copyright
counsel at U.S. Shoe Corporation in Cincinnati.
