Greasan na Meáin, Skillnet: Ceardlann aisteoreacht-Acting workshop April 2016.
Achievements:
I completed my college course and gained a degree in which I am very satisfied.
I achieved in gaining 460 points in my leaving certificate examination and got my first choice
on my CAO, BA media studies in Maynooth. I have completed the course in Maynooth with
great success achieving a 2.1 grade.
I have a keen interest in sports and have won many medals with Ballinameen GAA club and
Boyle Celtic soccer club. I also represented Roscommon at underage level for numerous years
until i had to stop beacause of injury.
I have a strong interest in music and have a grade 5 piano degree, but have taught myself
further.
I have a grade 4 speech and drama degree and have acted in various musicals and plays through
the years.
I speak fluent Irish as I was at the Gaeltacht for seven summers. I also have gone to the
Gaeltacht as part of the Irish modules of my college course. I have completed swimming grades
up to the life safety 3 Grade.
I completed various computer courses throughout the years, including an ECDL course.
I recently completed a Television presenters course with the Irish Media Academy Dublin.
I completed an acting workshop with Greasan na Meáin and Ros na Rún.
Skills:
Through work experience and college and work, I have gained many skills and learned how to
use and operate studio equipment, both radio and television. I also have experience in video and
audio editing via many different editing software e.g. Premier pro and Adobe Audition. I learned
this through my college modules as well as work experience which I do every week in a radio
station to keep myself fresh. Every week at Ros FM I complete a couple of hours on air, this has
helped me gain more confidence and improve my communication and broadcast skills. In
working in a radio environment has enabled me to see the daily routines in action, what is
necessary in preparing for broadcast, and has helped me keep myself fresh in terms of operating
studio equipment. I have also worked on advertisements, doing voice overs as well as the editing
and research involved. With my work in Ros Fm I have also had to read the news which I feel
has helped immensely in my own presenting radio and television.
I have good interpersonal and communication skills which I gained from meeting new people at
the Gaeltacht and from my past work. I am a very hardworking and determined person and
always work to the best of my abilities to achieve my goals.
I feel the good communication skills I have obtained through my life would help me deal very
well with audiences/customers and also help me in any work sector.
From completing the television presenters course in Harold’s cross Dublin I gained yet more
confidence on camera as well as numerous tips of the trade from former BBC producer Barbara
Collins. I feel I would now be fully equipped for any TV environment. My working with Irish Tv
as a camera assistant, cameraman and presenter has further developed my presenting skills as
well as confidence also. Working with the camera enabled me to develop more of an idea of
what producers/camera operators want from a presenter.
I also speak fluent Irish from attending the Gaeltacht as a teen as well as studying Irish to a high
standard in University.
Interests:
As mentioned above I have a strong interest in sports. I also have a really keen interest in music
and even participated in musicals in secondary school. I play the guitar and can also play the tin
whistle as well as the piano/keyboard. I love all genres of music, mostly older music from the
60s-80s but as I said I love any type of music from Rap to Disco.
I am very interested in the media industry especially radio and television broadcasting through
my studies in college, Media Studies.
Also without doubt throughout the years I have gained a great love for the Irish language through
my studies and past experiences. Since a young age I have always aspired to being a radio and
television presenter as well as be involved in the film industry. My studies have led up to it and I
hope to pursue it in the coming months. My work experience in Ros FM has also helped me cut
my teeth in the radio industry.
I also dabble in film and television writing, yet without any finished projects or produced works
but that is all to come. I have always had a keen interest in how programmes and films were
made and always wanted to be part of the process.
