To whom it may concern,
Kelsey Estes is eccentric. She is a hard working, charismatic, motivated, eccentric
biologist that has impressed nie with her scholarly attitude. I have had the pleasure of
teaching Kelsey in Sophomore Honors Biology and the AP Biology classes at Evergreen
High School. During this time she has demonstrated a true passion in the field of
Biology. Students like Kelsey are a rare find because they bring sophistication and desire
to learn to the high school classroom.
Kelsey has been an outstanding Student in both Honors Biology and AP Biology
classes, earning excellent marks äs Fm sure her transcripts show. Her grades are
indicative of hard work, strong ability, and a deep interest. Kelsey's transcripts, however,
do not show the copious amounts of passion that she possesses. A fine example of her
enthusiasm in the field of biology is her work on her fetal pig dissection when we were
investigating the circulatory System. The specimen that she was dissecting was one of the
better examples in the class. I mentioned to Kelsey that I would probably use her
specimen in the lab practical exam. Upon finding this out she eagerly insisted on staying
after class to work on her specimen more so that it would be good enough for the exam.
The specimen was already dissected so that all the major blood vessels were clear, but
she wanted it to be immaculate. This meticulous aspect of her strong work ethic shows
me that Kelsey has the tools to become a great asset to the scientific Community.
Kelsey has also had to overcome some challenges during her senior year. Her
parents have been dealing with some tough economic problems which have resulted in
her family moving and Kelsey transferring to JefFerson High School. Her new school's
environment is drastically different from the one here at Evergreen High School. Not
only is she separated from friends that she has had for the last 8 years, but she is also
experiencing for the first time what it means to be a minority. I have kept in touch with
Kelsey during this time, and rather than feeling sorry for herseif, she actually enjoys the
new perspective and lessons brought about from this experience. In just the short time
from her junior year here at Evergreen to now at Jefferson, I can see that she has matured
immensely. It is beguiling to see a young woman like Kelsey develop such an awesome
world view that will without a doubt make her a compassionate and conscientious citizen.
Kelsey has shared her goal with me to major in Biological Sciences, go to a
challenging university, and become a medical doctor. I have no doubt that she will
achieve these goals. She is a young woman of great fortitude and intellect, who will
succeed wherever she goes. I give Kelsey Estes my highest recommendation.
Sincerely,
David Meyers
