To Whom It May Concern,
It is with great pleasure that I recommend Niuyue (Kay) Zhang	to you. Kay
studied with me for a semester at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. She was part of my
production class called Directing for Television…but she did so much more. Not only
did Kay direct, she selected, cast, pre-visualized and then executed two short films. She
also held many other jobs including Assistant Director, Technical Director, Stage
Manager, Cameraman, Videotape Engineer, and Audio Engineer for other classmates’
films. This sounds like a lot…it was…and she excelled at all of them.
Kay was always prepared, always enthusiastic, and most important, always
supportive committing to her classmates vision for their films. On her own films, she
always chose excellent material, understood the characters thoroughly and communicated
well with the crew and the actors she was directing.
I addition to her classwork for me, Kay executed a topical documentary short
about the stereo-typing of Asians on film and TV. She interviewed me for this…and I had
no idea of the scope she had in mind until I saw –and was thoroughly impressed by—the
fished product.
And I haven’t even started to tell you about Kay, the person. She is lovely in so
many ways. She is adaptable, personable, eager, cheerful, and always reliable. She has
integrity as a person so I have no doubts about recommending her to you. Think of a
person who steps out of her comfort zone fearlessly.
Respectfully,
Mary Lou Belli
