2. Nearly a decade ago, TECHLAB developed a marketing and sales
partnership with Alere. Part of our agreement was for Alere to develop and
represent TECHLAB products within their global branding infrastructure.
Upon further evaluation, TECHLAB came to realize that our company
was missing out on the value of building and maintaining our own brand
identity, both at the product and corporate levels. With this revelation came
a new commitment to investing resources into building our brands and
telling our stories through our own voice, rooted in science, research, and
development and speaking directly to our core audience of clinicians and
physicians. Since 2014, TECHLAB has put significantly increased energy
into reclaiming our branding and marketing efforts.
This publication presents TECHLAB’s recent brand development and
marketing work and is organized by product category. As we do with our
diagnostics, we test the results of our marketing and continue to refine and
enhance these efforts to deliver ever improving results.

14. In early 2015, TECHLAB’s marketing team created a new campaign
messaging and visual communications strategy for lactoferrin testing
products based upon market research findings, choosing to promote
“lactoferrin testing” as a brand in and of itself rather than merely promoting
the individual lactoferrin products. This new approach allowed us to focus
on the application of lactoferrin testing to new markets, such as physicians
working with Clostridium difficile (CDI) patients, whereas previously the
focus had been limited to IBD and IBS. TECHLAB’s marketing team
positioned lactoferrin testing in the market as the reliable choice for getting
a first read on intestinal inflammation.
As the only FDA-approved lactoferrin-based tests for intestinal
inflammation, TECHLAB moved to capitalize on our unique market position
by launching a rebrand of our IBD products. We first chose to rename the
products to more prominently feature the lactoferrin biomarker. We also
took the opportunity to completely redesign our packaging, establishing a
strong, cohesive visual identity for the lactoferrin product line.

marketing campaign, product
sales increased by 10% in
2015 over 2014.
19. A FUN CONTEST where delegates
had to guess the number of little
TECHLAB toilets in a huge container
displayed in the main exhibition hall was
met with great enthusiasm.
OUR 30-FOOT BOOTH was a show
standout and drew big crowds each
day. Four connected video screens
presented lactoferrin testing information
above large lightbox displays. A
demonstration counter featured direct
access to the lactoferrin testing
website, allowing booth visitors to
explore the site on their own. The main
counter held various support collateral
pieces that TECHLAB staff used to
further explain the products and that
visitors could then take away with
them in their lactoferrin testing branded
bags. The back wall and coffee table
displayed the newly rebranded test kit
boxes, allowing staff easy access to
them to show prospective clients.
Our new campaign
generated a record
number of new
leads at DDW—
more than double
that of the previous
year.
20. A FOURTEEN-PAGE BROCHURE
included in the DDW registration
welcome bag and also made available
at the booth provided an overview
of lactoferrin testing, its clinical
advantages, types of testing formats
available, and ordering tips.
LARGE, COLORFUL BAGS sporting
the lactoferrin branding were given out
at the booth to hold all of the lactoferrin
collateral. The large bag size allowed it
to also carry show collateral from other
booths, resulting in our bag becoming
the most visible carryall at the show.

2014 Tradeshow
To appeal to the international
audience at ASTMH, TECHLAB
featured four of our rapid QUIK
CHEK™ and lateral flow test kits
for infectious disease and touted
our international collaborations.
25. TECHLAB®
, Inc. partners with health research organizations to make our products avail-
able for clinical and epidemiological studies of diarrheal diseases.
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
With a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the University of Maryland School
of Medicine’s Center for Vaccine Development used TECHLAB diagnostics for a three-
year study of diarrheal diseases among young children in developing areas of Africa and
Asia. The Global Enteric Multi-Center Study (GEMS) is the most extensive study of child-
hood diarrheal diseases ever conducted, with more than 22,000 subjects from seven
sites. Researchers evaluated approximately 40 pathogens to determine the most com-
mon causes of moderate-to-severe diarrheal disease.
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Using small business grants obtained through the National Institute of Allergy and Infec-
tious Diseases (NIAID) and the Middle Atlantic Center of Excellence (MARCE), TECHLAB
and its research collaborators have effectively moved medical diagnostics from concept
to the international marketplace. TECHLAB has partnered over the past 15 years with Dr.
William A. Petri, Jr. at the University of Virginia and Dr. Rashidul Haque at the International
Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research in Bangladesh to secure NIH development funds
for global diagnostics.
TECHLAB strives to build long-term partnerships that create successful outcomes lead-
ing to better patient healthcare.

available for clinical and epidemiological studies of diarrheal diseases.
With a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the University
of Maryland School of Medicine’s Center for Vaccine Development used
TECHLAB diagnostics for a three-year study of diarrheal diseases among
young children in developing areas of Africa and Asia.
TECHLAB has also supplied diagnostics tests to the Global Enteric Multi-
Center Study (GEMS), the most extensive study of childhood diarrheal
diseases ever conducted, and to The International Centre for Diarrhoeal
Disease Research—a health research institution in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The Global Enteric Multi-Center Study (GEMS) is the most extensive
study of childhood diarrheal diseases ever conducted, with more than
22,000 subjects from seven sites. Researchers evaluated about 40
pathogens to determine the most common causes of diarrheal diseases.

Dear Mr. and Ms. Gates:
On behalf of the owners and employees of TECHLAB, Inc., we cordially invite you to visit TECHLAB’s
exhibit at the 63rd Annual Meeting of The American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene held in
New Orleans between November 2-5, 2014.
TECHLAB’s theme for this year’s meeting is “Infectious Disease Diagnostics for Global Health.” In part,
this celebrates productive collaborations between the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and TECHLAB
over the last decade. These collaborations include the following:
• Utilization of TECHLAB’s enteric parasitology diagnostics in the Foundation’s GEMS project.
Importantly, GEMS documented a previously unknown level of mortality due to cryptosporidiosis.
• Participation in the Foundation’s MAL-ED project, both with enteric parasitology diagnostics and
biomarker assays that quantify intestinal inflammation in malnourished children.
• Involvement in the Foundation’s vaccine efficacy study, PROVIDE. TECHLAB partnered with Dr.
William A. Petri, Jr. at the University of Virginia to develop a novel biomarker assay that describes the
burden of tropical enteropathy in vaccine non-responders.
• Ongoing product development associated with the Foundation’s RIAT project that funds new
diagnostic assays to describe population-level success of vaccination campaigns.
• Participation in the Foundation’s newly formed Cryptosporidium intervention initiative.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has allowed TECHLAB to employ our strengths towards
improving global health; we look forward to expanding these collaborations in the near future.
We certainly understand that you have a very busy schedule. If the opportunity arises, however, we
would enjoy having you and your colleagues visit our ASTMH exhibit at BOOTH #113.
Sincerely,
