outside the home. They should stay
at home to look after their children.”

Introduction
       • G - World has been changing drastically, with an increase in literacy and
job opportunities, as well as competitiveness and work-oriented attitude.

       • I - The societal change results in mothers, who were previously believed
to have to stay at home to take care of children, entering the workforce.

       • S - Nevertheless, some still believe in the past tradition about mothers
staying at home and tend to house affairs and well-being of children.

       • T - Even though tradition is important, the changing society encourages
mothers and housewives to enter the workforce, due to the constant and
fast-paced development in the country and way of living. Therefore, I
disagree with the saying that mothers should not work but stay at home
to take care of the children.

Point 1
            • P - Increase literacy rate in Mothers
            • E - Increased literacy ---> increased ability to
influence and take up a job in society ---> more jobs
taken ---> increased income earnings of country
            • E - As of 2011, 77% of women worldwide is literate.
This percentage is consistently increasing over the
                   years.
            • L - With higher manpower in workforce, increased
earnings of the country is ensured, allowing the
country to benefit in the current competitive market.

Point 2
             • P - Standard of living in countries increase
             •       E - Rise of technology ---> Increased standard of living --->
Increased cost of living ---> Mothers require to work in order to
be able to provide and support the family.
             • E - According to an article published by xpapulator.com, the
current overall cost of living rank for Singapore is 16 out of 780
international locations covering every country in the world. It
can be seen that Singapore’s cost of living is relatively high
compared to other countries. This leads to families requiring
higher income to cope with daily needs.
             • L - With the high and increasing cost of living, mothers will have
to help in supporting the family by working in the society. They
will then be able to increase the income of the family

Monday, April 15, 2013
Point 3
         • P - Sense of fulfillment of Mothers.

         • E - Women have the capabilities to achieve respectable
recognition in society ---> By taking on a desired job, they
will feel fulfilled in both areas at home and in society.

         • E - Lady Margaret Thatcher once mentioned in her 1996
memoir The Path To Power: ‘To be a mother and housewife is
a vocation of a very high kind. But I simply felt that it was not
the whole of my vocation. I knew that I also wanted a career.’

         • L - Thus, other than staying at home and taking care of
children, they should also achieve their goals in community,
that is to take up a dream job.

Conclusion
                     • Change and development in the society has
                         encouraged mothers to work
                     • Mothers start to work due to their higher
education level, cost of living and to obtain
a sense of achievement in life.
                     • Thus, I believe that mothers should work
so as to provide better for the family.
