2. Book Review
• Reading this is similar to a journey where you travel from your own past to future
passing through present. When it enlightens us through our past, knowledge about
ourselves feels very little to us. It gives us reasons for why some things are the way
they are and talks about all the 5 other homo genus which used to live with us
Homo Sapiens on this same planet which are unfortunately or fortunately now
extinct. It makes you think that what would have been our fate if one of the
instances of history would not have happened the way it did or if we wouldn’t have
evolved the way we are today. It highly talks about our brain and tells us why we
are the most superior animal on this planet today on the top of food chain and
what went behind achieving this position.
3. Book Review (Cont.)
• Harari highlights some of the present situations and we don’t even realize that
book has shifted its course similar to what sapiens did. Explanation of beginning of
religion and human society shifts to spread of world’s biggest and widest spread
religion capitalization and you seem to notice that what world are you living in.
Suddenly you will like to look down from window and realize what so obvious
perceptions you were missing in your daily life. Things starts to fall in place and one
after another realizations starts hitting your mind. The greatness of this book lies in
the form that how simply it explains and puts forward some of the biggest and
most complex phenomenon. While doing such wonders it transits into what future
we might live in upcoming years or decades.
4. Book Review (Cont.)
• Writer gives the sense of how powerful Humans are and makes you feel very
strong at the same time telling that an individual is negligible in front of rich
history and bright future and holds no importance. It’s a hard to describe
feeling. Book surely gives you another way of looking at things in world. You
perceive everything differently and start understanding that something
happening right now might not be making sense today but might be an
important factor in creation of tomorrow’s world. You also learn that not all
things which we like and feel lucrative are good and might be hindering
some serious progress of humankind.
5. Book Review (Cont.)
• You start looking every event from observer’s eyes and refrain from taking
sides because you start thinking that we don’t know where this might lead.
Some of the truths are hard to digest but are most awarding if accepted
according to my personal views. You will stop looking things into binary yes
or no, good or bad perspective after understanding this although author
puts no focus on this. It gives you a real sense of power and belief on
progress and possibilities.
6. Book Review (Cont.)
• A forager Sapien hunter gatherer surviving by hunting and consuming flesh and
leftovers by bigger animal, someone in agricultural era or someone in WW1 or
WW2 would have never thought that his upcoming generation will acquire powers
which society associates with creator Gods like possibility of destruction of whole
world through Nuclear Weapons or creating a new living being through DNA
scanning-mapping, will be able to bless himself with whatever extra ability he
wants through minor change in DNA and give birth to an already extinct species
again. This books clearly makes you feel that history still has many unknown folds
and possibilities of future are endless. This also leaves you thinking about your own
future and how tiny you are in this world. Personally it has answered some of my
questions like importance and evolution of religion and society. Whereas it has
made me reach one step further to the answers of questions such as “What is the
purpose of my life?”.
