To Whom It May Concern,
I was pleased to see a job opening for a Part-Time Associate Editor, copy desk position at the Los
Angeles company and I believe I would be an asset to your team.
My background as an English major primarily deals with editing, I have been the current Associate Editor
for Washington State University student run publication, Voices for a year. I deal with our social media
account; although social media editing and being a content creator is not my specialty, I have exceled at
my job by creating how-to articles and different promotional texts (posters, flyers) to engage students
with Voices. My tasks also included line/content editing submissions for our journal and help compile all
edits onto a single document; my editing skills and knowledge have grown because of my current
position. Analyzing the first set of submissions allows me to set the tone for our current journal issue, I
must pay attention to content at first, then the punctual errors, doing this allowed my analytical skills to
be enhanced.
In addition to this experience, I was an Editorial Assistant for Girl Friday Productions, I wrote
promotional texts for upcoming novels, which allowed me to practice my creative writing skills and test
my editorial skills. Preforming cold reads and proofreading manuscripts taught me the importance of
detail—many eyes may look at a manuscript, but each person is looking for something different.
Switching between cold reader, line editor and content editor allowed me to obtain tangible skills for
editing.
Most of my experience deals with editing, but I am a freelance writer for WSU Odyssey online; I create
articles once a week based on anything. I prefer editorial work, but I acquired this position to enhance
my editorial work, while practicing my creative writing ability. Being a content creator allows me to
practice not only my writing skills, but showcase my ability to adapt. Adaptability is a large factor in the
workplace and is something that does not affect my work ethic or producibility.
Although I do not have much work with the sport industry, obtaining jobs that forced me to become a
content creator instills trust within my abilities to excel at this position. I have a basic understanding of
sports and am quite familiar with the television network, ESPN. I can bring strong editing skills,
Microsoft office skills and basic HTML knowledge to The Walt Disney Company.
I am confident that I can offer strong editing skills to your company and would be a successful employee
for The Walt Disney Program. Please email me or call me at 951-818-0811 to arrange an interview.
Thank you for your time—I look forward to learning more about this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Justyce Hunter
