23th Annual French Film Festival • March 26-29, 2015
Recommendation Letter for Julien LAFAYE
Richmond, October 11, 2014
Julien LAFAYE undertook an internship with our company the French Film
Festival-Richmond, Virginia, from August 2012 to June 2013.
With two other interns Julien was charged to assist the two co-directors with the
creation, organization and coordination of the 21st
edition of the French Film
Festival-Richmond, VA (www.frenchfilmfestival.us).
The preparation of that specific year event was heavily charged since the
Festival welcomed a French delegation of 40 film directors, actors and technicians
coming from France to present their films (15 features and 12 shorts) to the
American audience, with a total of more than 21,000 admittances during the
actual four day-event.
Julien was more specifically responsible of assisting one of the co-directors with
the programming of the 15 feature films participating in the film selection, as well
as in the selection of the 12 shorts. He helped securing DCP copies of the films
and their coded KDMs from the production and distribution companies (French
and American) and sending invitations to directors and actors to come to
Richmond present their films. He also was very active in all negotiations related
to the shipping of the copies to and from Richmond and the traveling of the
talents.
He also assisted the co-director with the creation and distribution of advertizing
material with a team of American interns he supervised. These activities included
the creation of a 68 page festival program and its on-line extended version. Julien
also worked diligently on the detailed schedule of the 4-day event necessary for
the smooth run of a Festival attended by such a large delegation of French talent
and an impressive audience coming from all parts of the United States. During the
event itself, he shared responsibilities with the rest of the team for the logistics
and smooth execution of the 4-day Festival. He actively participated in the
supervision of the American interns and the coordination of the French delegation

attending to the guests’ comfort as well as making sure that they were following
their respective schedules and obligations.
After the event, Julien remained two additional months at the office diligently
engaged in additional tasks as archiving, creating a press book, writing thank you
letters to participating talents and sponsors, and preparing explanatory material to
facilitate the work of up-coming French interns.
In all his functions, Julien demonstrated many talents: excellent qualities of mind,
great capacities for work, especially team-work, strong interests in his work. He
had excellent relationships with the two co-directors, with the two other French
interns and the American interns. He demonstrated qualities of seriousness, open-
mindedness, initiative and total dedication. Julien was also very successful in
applying his previous knowledge and in developing his expertise in commercial
and cultural management as well as informatic tools. He also largely developed
his oral and written skills in English, which are now at a superior level.
In summary, Julien Lafaye gave total satisfaction to the two co-directors of the
company and largely contributed to the overwhelming success of the event (the
21th Annual French Film Festival-Richmond, Virginia) that he wholeheartedly
and successfully helped to create, organize and coordinate.
Please feel free to contact us if you need further information concerning Julien’s
performance and assets.
Sincerely yours,
Françoise et Peter Kirkpatrick, co-directeurs
