Malta Hosts Annual Fashion Gala Night Celebrating Italian Design

ollowing the annual Ferramoda event,
whose official media partner is Rendez-
vous De La Mode fashion magazine, was
the inauguration of the Chamber of
Fashion Malta (during which president Dr
Juliana Scerri Ferrante signed a protocol
of collaboration with the
Italian Cultural Institute under Director
Dr Salvatore Schirmo. This event was held
in conjunction with the launch of the Malta
Fashion Association, under the direction of
President Adrian Mizzi.
In the Sacra Infermeria at the
Mediterranean Conference Centre,
Ferramoda held the annual Gala of Fashion
and Culture, where Italy, Malta and Spain
exhibited their top fashions and designers
in the presence of diplomats and
ambassadors accredited to the Government
of Malta, representatives of the Maltese
Government and the Republic of San
Marino, as well as VIP guests from Italy.
All guests in attendance contributed to
raising funds for Children’s Homes in
Malta.
The evening began with a cocktail gala
and canapés offered by Island Caterers, and wine tastings by
Camilleri Wines. For the occasion, Ferramoda, in
collaboration with Island Caterers, Mediterranean
Conference Centre and Nexos, promoted a number of brands
including, K-Optics Opticians, Gucci (imported by VJ
Salomone Ltd), Rodo accessories (such as Ottaviani,
Moschino and Versace), as well as Sicilian jewellery Donna
Paulina, Pupa Cosmetics Milan, Environ, Land Rover
Evoque and Transforma. Hats by Adalia Bonanno.
The evening was presented by the excellent compère Dr Joe
Chetcuti, and was complemented with musical interludes by
Soprano Ruth Sammut Casingena, who masterfully
performed the aria “Nessun Dorma” from Puccini. Makeup
by Guerlain and hair by Toni & Guy.
The guest of honour was the Italian
singer of international fame, Numa
(Emanuela Palmer), who was accompanied
by her producer and famous British
guitarist Phil Palmer, who wore an outfit
by Italian-German designer, Peter
Langner.
Throughout the evening, Ferramoda
offered guests a look at the latest fashion
collections from Italian prêt-à-porter
brand Trussardi and Luisa Spagnoli, as
well as Spanish designer Lucia De Su,
promoting her creations of African
culture. Ferragiu, an elegant and exclusive
brand that combines Made in MaltItaly,
recently launched in Riccione, and
promotes Mediterranean culture using
wool and Italian silks and lace expertly
made by Maltese embroiderers. The men’s
fashion also had its moment of glory with a showcase of
designer Peppino Liudice in Malta (AG Italia).
The grand finale of the evening ended with a parade of the
famous Italian designer of haute couture Anton Giulio
Grande, which included unique designs worn by Italian and
foreign actresses, embellished with lace, embroidery and
Swarovski crystals.

Last month, Malta hosted two days dedicated to
fashion (one of which was under the patronage
of the Embassy of Italy in Malta) in celebration
of the tenth anniversary of the Ferramoda brand,
based on Made in MaltItaly, to reflect the
collaboration between Malta and Italy
