You must have served in HM Forces – doesn’t matter how long for, or how long ago.
You must be looking towards employment – we understand that not everyone is ready to jump into full time employment and our role
is to help you to get closer to finding out what you really want to do, and then travel with you as you get there.

WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR COMING TO HIGHGROUND?
HighGround is tri-service. Our vision is land-based opportunities for all who have served.
We welcome referrals from other charities including the Regular Forces Employment Association, Walking With the Wounded, Royal British
Legion Industries and Help4Heroes and we work closely with the Officers Association, Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court
and the Career Transition Partnership.
We also welcome self referrals.
Every individual who is referred to HighGround or self-refers is at a different stage in their lives and our aim is to find out how we can help you
as quickly as possible. Everyone we work with is looking towards the land-based sector. Some people know where they want to go, and just
need some advice and introductions and are on their way.
For others, the land-based sector offers so many opportunities for ex military people it’s hard to know where to start!
For these people a Rural Week could be the answer. This is a 5 day residential course delivered at an agricultural college with 9 others,
predominantly serving personnel who are in the resettlement phase of their military careers.
It costs HighGround £1,360 per head to deliver a Rural Week.
HighGround is not a grant-making charity and we ask referral agencies to ensure that Veterans are fully funded when making the referral.
For self-referrals we are able to use our network of contacts including the Service benevolent funds to assist with funding; this remains the
responsibility of the Veteran and we will help with contacts where we can.
After a Rural Week which has helped you to decide what you want to do there are many follow-up options which we can help you with,
including training, work experience (we have a constantly expanding network of contacts throughout the UK and abroad) and volunteering.

Whether it’s our land-based advice service based at our office in Westminster or longer term support including a Rural Week all referrals start
the same way with a telephone call or e-mail and inevitably a form!

ABOUT BICTON COLLEGE
Bicton College is located in East Devon within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just two miles from the
Jurassic Coast. The historic Georgian mansion, commercial farm, arboretum and excellent campus facilities, set
within 200 hectares of parkland, provide an exceptional learning environment for the full range of land based
vocational areas. In addition, the Military Academy provides a stepping stone for new entrants wishing to progress
a career into the armed forces.
Bicton College is only ten minutes from the sea and twenty minutes from the vibrant city of Exeter. Where
attendees to Rural Weeks do not have their own transport the College can arrange collection from Exeter
St David’s main line train station with further details provided within joining instructions.
