Tulum is a delightful section of the Maya Riviera in Mexico along the Caribbean Sea. It offers beautiful beaches, excellent restaurants, and a variety of hotels. Though less discovered than nearby Playa del Carmen and Cancun, Tulum provides an authentic experience without feeling overly touristy. The warm waters, lush scenery, and opportunity to explore Mayan ruins and snorkel make it a relaxing and enjoyable destination that appeals to visitors of all ages.

1. TULUM
Looking over the tops of my toes, past the end of the chaise lounge, and beyond a
few feet of white sand, beckons the Caribbean. Warm and blue, occasionally
turquoise and even a vivid emerald green, it lives up to its exotic reputation.
Indulging in a sleepy section of the Maya Riviera - Tulum, is a delightful surprise.
A bit less discovered than the better known Playa del Carmen and Cancun areas up
the road, Tulum allows a feeling of visiting, rather than the dreaded tourist moniker.
(However, as an aside, I must speak up here for tourism. The intrinsic value of
tourism is not in its important contribution to the economy, it is in the inherent
opportunities to explore, discover and experience. This cannot always be attained in
a non-tourist fashion!)
Timing is everything, and if your stay coincides with the lusty breezes the Caribbean
offers, you both avoid the requisite humidity and heat natural to this latitude and
also the very meaningful added benefit that mosquitos don’t like wind. Tulum offers
wonderful restaurants, many hotels of varying style and value, shopping, from the
local vender carts to stylish boutiques, and, of course, those beautiful and delightful
beaches. A week here infuses both a sense of welcome relaxation and a lust for
more. With water play lands abounding within a short drive, the region suits all ages
and all tastes.
Even a group of 70 somethings took snorkeling adventures, first on the large and
captivating reef just offshore (in view of the Maya ruins), in the Cénotes
(underground water reservoirs the Yucatán peninsula is known for), and a
meandering lagoon.
The world offers its bounty in many forms and so many places. It is in best interest
to check out Tulum.
