To Whom It May Concern:
Thank you for your time and consideration of Josue Lopez for employment in your organization. I have known and
worked closely with Josue for 18 months in the church congregation over which I preside. During that time, I have
had the opportunity to watch Josue work through a number of situations and circumstances that demonstrate
aptitude, skill and attitude worth your consideration.
Josue has excellent communication skills. Of his many non-native English speaking peers in our congregation, Josue’s
mastery of vocabulary, pronunciation and nuanced meanings is the best I have seen. This is largely due to how
carefully he listens and pays attention to others. Josue is able to communicate at a deeper level than many of his
peers. His non-verbal language, empathy and sense of humor allow him to disarm and endear even the toughest
personalities.
Self-awareness is another strength that allows Josue to get along well with others, especially those who aren’t
necessarily like him. He frequently makes self-deprecating jokes, but not in the typical pandering, false modesty
fashion. He genuinely knows what he is good and bad at, is quick to acknowledge it, and eager to improve. When he
asks for help and advice, I know he intends to act on it and I have been impressed by his discipline and accountability.
For instance, in the job search process, Josue has adapted his approach and execution several times, as he has
received feedback and advice that others might discount, ignore or simply not know how to implement.
In addition to being teachable, Josue is confident enough to believe he can improve and do things that once may have
seemed impossible to him. This allows him to set goals that stretch but don’t break him. At several times, I have
thought his school and workload were too much for him, but he has risen to meet the challenge exceed my
expectations. I think he has surprised even himself sometimes, which is a good sign that he is taking risks that are
paying off.
