Congratulations on finishing your first year of law school! As part of your second semester
Legal Research and Writing course you took a two part research and practical skills exam.
Part I of the exam covered basic legal terminology, provided a review of court structures,
persuasive and mandatory law, citation, and assured your understanding of the parts of
written case opinions. Part II of the exam covered practical skills such as statutory
interpretation, digest and secondary source review, the use of key numbers and headnotes,
and finally cases synthesis in order to answer questions for a hypothetical client.
Your combined score on parts I and II demonstrate that you have mastered these first year
research and practical skills. Congratulations!
