PERSONAL BRANDING
Personal branding is a deliberate, conscious, intentional, and creative way to influence the perception of the public of a person by strategically
aligning the authenticity and authority in the said industry and thereby projecting their trustworthiness to deliver on different global scales. It is
usually about individuals who can sell himself or herself to an ever increasingly competitive market.
It can also be how one promotes oneself through skills and consistency. Personal branding gives an overview of one’s selling point that everyone
wants to be associated with and leverage on. It is so strong that it can create memories in a lifetime and after. “Personal branding gives the
opportunity to highlight one’s strengths and passion.” (Influencer marketing hub)
The importance of personal branding.
The importance of personal branding cannot be over emphasized as it is a trademark any successful brand must have and one very
important thing about personal branding is that it allows one to build originality through authenticity and add value to others.
Personal branding creates room for trust as people always desire to do business with a brand they can trust and be comfortable with,
this will also allow for genuine intentions that everyone wants to see. It also helps to build confidence that is needed to make a
significant difference, this comes as result of positive, remarkable qualities that have been in public space. It also helps to build a
network of people with influence and affluence with specifics in the chosen industry. Another importance is that it allows one to
build authority in the marketplace where a niche has been carved out and people keep demanding the service(s) not because of
popularity but because of the authority and niche. “Having authority gives you more power not only in bringing in more revenue, but
by allowing you the ability to demand premium pricing.”
Furthermore, it leads to referral to one’s brand thereby leading to a more robust presence in the said industry. A brand that has been
tested and trusted enjoys heavy presence of new and old clients and this will boast online presence and more people will use it to
generate valid opinions about the personal brand before one-on-one interactions, personal branding allows one to provide
transparency which will make more persons do business with the brand.
How to use social media for personal branding.
There is a space for personal branding to flourish and that space is social media, brands know this, and they tap into the frequency to
register their presence. First is to define your branding goal and find the right group that fuels your interest on different social media
platforms where engagements and ideas are shared on daily basis to help build on the foundation for your personal branding.
Knowing your audience and engaging them regularly is very important as some of them may lose sight of your personal brand if they
don’t see engagement from you, these engagements can include creating contents, social interactions etc. Have a calendar that will
guide you while posting and have strategic timing for the posting, posting images, videos will help with engagements. Be consistent
and persistent as you might not get the desired results at the first attempt. Everybody always wants more, so give as much as you can
to create a lasting brand and give people positive reasons to always remember your unique brand. “Personal connection makes the
customers feel that you care about them, and that they are more than just revenue to you,” Matt Sweetwood, CEO of beBee. Influencers have
vital roles they play on social media, and it is important to collaborate with them for personal branding promotions as these set of influencers
have large following who will be ready to subscribe to anything they promote.
Good example of using social media for personal branding.
Social media personal branding is to stay consistent with messaging and aesthetics, use high-quality content that resonates with
targeted audience and reflects brand values. Staying active on social media profiles and responding to your followers’ comments and
queries to build meaningful relationships.
