Anti-ALEC
Held a press conference to
mobilize support in opposition
of ALEC (American Legislative
Exchange Council).
SOME
OF OUR
ACTIONS
On October 21, 2015, ABU placed 360 crosses on the lawn of the State Capitol signifying
those who have lost their lives because the Utah Legislature has not enacted legislation
expanding Medicaid coverage.
Alliance for a Better Utah (“ABU”) is a non-profit
that is seeking to achieve ideological balance in
Utah, where (i) public officials act with integrity,
transparency, and for the common good, and (ii)
an informed and engaged citizenry seeks
progressive change of and through the political
process. In essence, ABU is a watchdog of the
people: holding public officials accountable and
empowering Utah’s residents.
With the flexibility and independence to say and
do what needs to be said or done when others
cannot (or will not), ABU speaks with a distinct
voice and plays a unique role in Utah’s political
landscape.
We seek to:
 Provide commentary on important public
policy matters;
 Correct inaccurate or misleading
statements arising in public policy matters;
 Pressure government officials to do their
jobs as they have been entrusted to do
them; and
 Hold public officials accountable for their
actions (or inactions).
“We say what needs to be said
when others cannot.”
ABU is best known as the progressive, but non-
partisan, non-profit that brought down former Utah
Attorney General John Swallow and which is
relentlessly pursuing Medicaid expansion for the
thousands of Utahns without access to healthcare.
