2. Introduction
 A resident of York County, PA, John Weaner has been
part of the agricultural field for more than 25 years. He
has worked to preserve the character of rural lands
and has overseen agricultural loan portfolios. In that
vein, John Weaner has worked with organizations
such as the Pennsylvania chapter of the National FFA
Organization.
Commonly referred to by its previous name of Future
Farmers of America, the National FFA Organization
works to enhance agricultural education across the
nation. Its approach to agricultural education uses a
three-component model: Supervised Agricultural
Experience (SAEs) programs, student leadership
organizations, and interactive classroom and
laboratory work.

3. Agricultural Education
 SAEs offer students work-based learning
opportunities, where they develop the skills they
will need later on. Through student leadership
organizations such as the National FFA
Organization and the National Young Farmer
Educational Association, future agricultural
professionals make connections and develop as
both farmers and people. Finally, classroom and
laboratory education gives students the practical
knowledge they can apply to other learning areas,
and it allows them to find innovative ways to
improve agricultural practice as well.
